Yellow Watchman Goby

Hi All,
I purchased a watchman about 1 week ago and i was wondering if they just hide? Mine seems to just hide in a little cave in the live rock. I try to spy on him and see him sometimes front in center in the tank staring out of the front glass but the min i try to enter the room he darts back in his cave. He also doesnt actively eat when i feed so i have just been laying down a few sinkable pellets infront of his cave and they disapear so i assume hes eating. Do they warm up to you after a little while? or will he just hide? Looks like i have an empty 20 gallon (my main DT is 60gal) with LR and Sand but no fish...lol. Any thoughts?

He will warm up to you. Just give him some time. I currently have a Molly Miller that is know to hide. It's been about 1.5 months, and he is just know coming out without food.

Mine hides all the time. He's been in there over a year and I sometimes see him at feeding time but other than that he is usually always in the cave.

Mine is super strange. he hides all day which i assumed was normal. At night when the lights go out its really odd. he sleeps against the front of the glass on the sand and turns really pale? the first time i saw him with a flashlight i freaked out cause i thought he croaked. i turned on the light and in about 5 seconds he freaked out and darted to his cave. They are really cool little guys. Unfotunetly hes "watching" out for when i come into the room!

Mine like to hide in his caves.. He does tank a journey once in a while around the tank. He likes to come out and try to punk out my Green mandarin when the mandarin gets close to his fav cave. Funny to watch.

It is completely normal. I have had min for over three years. He hides most of the time except for feeding time.

Yep, I've had mine for a couple months now and thought a couple times that he had died because I'd go a week or two without seeing him. Then he'll peek his head out just enough to let me know he's still alive. About a week ago I got a diamond watchman goby and since then it seems like they're buddies, sorta. The yellow one will come out more often now if the diamond is near him.

When I first put my YWG in my tank he was constantly on the move and didn't settle down until he paired up with a candy cane pistol. The pair were a bit more shy than my Randall's/tiger pistol pair but now the YWG doesn't even dart down the cave when I walk up. It took him a bit to get comfortable though.

Heck he and the pistol disappeared for more than a month, only reason I knew they were still alive was because I could catch a glance of them in their tunnel under the tank every once in a while.

this is one of those little guys with a fun fish-ality. Mine survived jumping out of the tank, didn't eat for 3 weeks, disappeared for 3 weeks then showed up and act normal again. love this guy.

Mine hangs out at the front of his cave area. After 4 years it has started getting dark bands and loseing it's yellow color.A great fish with a personalitiy to match.

Mine was a nightmare as I already have a randalls goby and shrimp . He hid away for 3 weeks then every week I would either find him in the wier or sump . This went on for 3 months . I solved this by buying another pistol shrimp within a week they paired up and now they have a little borrow at the opposite end of the tank to my original goby

Mine hid in the beginning, but now comes out more than my Bluespotted Shrimp Goby. He moved around to several different spots until he settled on his current location.
