Yes another custom tank

Thanks i2go!

natep206, not sure... We just added the salt last night so no drips yet... We'll see what the future holds. :) The cover for the futon is washed regularly by my wife anyway so it shouldn't be a big deal. If it is then we'll just slide it out of the way before doing any work on the tank. :D

That is really kewl....whoda thunk it.

Love to see it when you have corals in it to.

Richard

Thanks Richard, I'm hoping for a short cycle so I can start stocking asap. The rock's been baking in a trashcan in my basement for months and went into the can from a long established tank so we'll see what happens. :)

Are you gonna have some fish? Kinda small but you could put like a neon goby in there.:)

Chris

I was thinking of some yellow clown gobies... :)

Thanks! Yeah, not really a place to sit and watch, but what can I say... At least my wife let me put it up. ;)

I think it would be cool if you did all t5s and went all clam with it... you could have some really spectacular variety being that everyclam even the same species is dramatically varied in coloration :) Plus VHO is a demanding lightsource the bulbs don't last long and if I recall the par drops off at 3-5 monthes... too bad your not doing sps anymore the bright purple piece that no one can id that traded you needs to be badly fragged as its growing into other colonies... :)

Thanks bro... :( Well the contest I'm in is looking for growth and I don't want to have to constantly monitor and dose for Ca and Alk... Plus Softies and LPS really take off in a rich environment so it should help for the contest. T-5's would be great but I've already got the ballast for VHO's so I'm going cheap... LOL! Besides what's two bulbs every 5 months? Not going to break the bank with that... Besides that contest is only over the next 5 months so it should be good.

BTW, I've added sand last night and within about an hour is was clear again! :) I'll get some new shots once I have my lighting setup completed.

calvin415: Softies and LPS really take off in a rich environment.

what do you mean by rich environment? i have all softies an would like them to grow faster.

IME, A nutrient rich environment really encourages soft coral growth. Thus for softies in a nano, (again IMO) water changes should be performed instead of skimming. Now if you are running SPS or Clams I would skim like crazy. But this tank will be primarily softies and LPS :D HTH

thanks i removed my css 60g skimmer about a month ago and started to do weekly water changes instead. im gonna be getting a Sunpod 150w HQI soon and go with the topless tank again. you just saved me money i bought a remora skimmer but im gonna return it. everyone was telling me i need to run a skimmer. would a fuge be ok to use? nice tank BTW

Don't get me wrong skimmers do a great job on keeping tanks free of waste but IMO skimming can easily be replaced on soft coral nano's with frequent waterchanges. Again, unless you are planning on SPS or Clams, skimmers are optional. Since you're going with MH, you might consider holding on to your skimmer, SPS will sound really tempting in the future. :) As for fuges, I love them and think it's one of the best things you can do for your tank.

Thanks!

Thanks! :) I haven't measured it but I think the top of the tank is about 6' off the ground. A little taller than I was thinking but it works. :D
