Hi Frank,

I have a couple of mature Bangaiis that have been breeding for the past 8 months. I have 3 young ones in my nano (1 female, 2 males) that were released exactly 6 months ago from the mature male. one of the young males is now brooding eggs.
Is this normal?
What size will the fry be once they hatch compared to the mature pair?

Edan-
yes 6 months is sufficently old enough to be sexually mature. In the wild it has been reported approx 4 months of age.
The fry should be "normal" sized, nothing different about them, the male will mouth -how ever many he can mouth. So fry size should be w/in average. They should eat enriched BBS nauplii

Great photo--open wide and say, Ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Thank you

I use Kent Zoecon, Zoe Marine and Marine-C to enrich the BBS. Is that enough?

p.s.

I have the whole fertilizing process on video...

Sorry to bust in on this thread. But can anyone tell me how to sex banghaii cardnials. i have one now and want to add another one to breed, but heard that 2 males will kill on or the other.

Edan-
are any of those phytoplanktons? Marine c is vitamin C- yes, Zoecon is selcon-HUFAs (what is zoe marine?. I usually prefer to feed the BS nauplii a tri mix of phytoplankton and then 18 hrs before feeding I add selco, i would enrich the BBS in a seperate tank after hatching. So depends on what the other stuff is- before i say yes

Triggerfreak- no problem w/ the Q? One point of note-they are banggai not banghaii, they are named after the island where they are found. Secondly NO you cannot sex these fish and yes two males fight. However if you have a large enough tank, you can add 1 more fish and see what happens, just be prepared to remove the one getting beat on
