Zebra tang for sale on DD today!!

False alarm guys...

Per Kevin's email: "Perhaps I confused some of the folks on our recent Open House event when I was babbling about my passion for Fairy Wrasse, and some specific fishes in my office aquariums. The first fish which comes to mind is my large Philippine Pintail Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus cf lanceolatus) which I have had for quite some time now, which resides in the same aquarium as a very large, and very shy terminal phase male Cirrhilabrus rosefascia with a nice lanceolate caudal fin. I was stating how C. rosefascia resembles C. lanceolatus from Japan so perhaps that is where the confusion lies"

Total bummer. Back to dreaming about the fish. And it was Kevin who had a juvenile C. lanceolatus a couple of years back that he got from Koji. It did well for four months and died one day out of the blue. He hasn't had another since.

Sorry Wayne and everyone. Not sure how I botched this one :uhoh2: Was not my intent to mislead.

This thread blows my mind every time I read it. It just does. LOL. Having seen hundreds of convict tangs in Hawaii I can't comprehend paying that much for a fish that looks only slightly different. Don't take my post as being judgmental about dropping $1200 on a fish. That's not the case. It's just spending that much on that particular fish that completely blows my mind. Wow. Congrats to whoever bought it. More power to you :)

Don't think it was anyone on here. It's just like the Cocos lemon peel angel, looks almost identical to the 30$ lemon peel but is way more than that

Actually I enjoy less common dwarf angels like Interruptus and Tygerpyge, and don't blame those willing to drop $800-$1500 on them.

I agree it's seems to be a lot easier for people to spend larger amounts of money on angels as opposed to tangs

I'm not sure what the reasoning is, possibly because there are so many more rare angels out there than tangs??

Also, when your out on the reefs you realize how many more tangs there are compared to angels from a volume standpoint. There are schools of hundreds of angels grazing together.

Right I just meant from the standpoint of there are like 15-20 different rare angels and there are like 4 rare tangs or so

Since Tangs are herbivores they must, by design, live their lives out on the reef in the shallows. So, while there may be regional oddities like the Gem or Zebra, most are both common and easy to collect. Not true for angels. Probably most are not rare in the ocean, just hard to collect thus rare in the hobby.

Rare Tangs would be Gem, Zebra, Black, and Hybrid Achilles I'd think.

This was the 4 that came to mind too... I would add the pie ball and tricolored yellow tangs that show up from time to time but that's more of a genetic defect

A local LFS had a small zebra (probably 2" or so at most) and prior to seeing it I had not know about them j just thought it was a slightly more unique convict. Pretty cool fish, but like some others have mentioned I think I'd rather go with a convict and spend the big bucks on rare angels

How much was it at the LFS? I have never seen one outside of DD
