ZEOvit Noob Question!

Thinking of starting ZEOvit on my reef. I've seen such incredible tanks using it. There's a package deal on BRS for sale. Includes a Vertex ZEOvit Reactor with stones, ZEOstart, ZEOfood, ZEObak for $313.
Does anyone on here have any experience with this ZEOvit method?

I know it's a part time job and I know it's expensive. But past that part, what has been your experience?

There is zeovit.com forum can help you better for all kind of Zeovit related questions, but of course, RC give you more variety of opinions and advices.

It seems BRS provide the "basic four" to help reefer start with. However, if you want use Zeovit 14 days method for your tank Initial cycle, then you need Sponge Power instead of Food7. Idea is Sponge Power can grow sponge in live rock faster to stabilize your tank.

BTW, IMO, don't spend your money on other KZ additives before the first 6 months. Maybe that is why BRS pack it this way.

Hope this help.

Cheers,

If your tank is doing well now I would stick with the method you are using. Zeovit is also not good to restore a high nutrient tank. You will generally end up with a lot of cyano. I personally do use zeo start and zeovit with vertex reactor, along with fauna marin products. My personal goal is not to have a super nutrient poor tank. I shoot for nitrate 2-5, phos .02-.06, prefer a more saturated color to my acros. To do zeovit method with just zeovit, you have to consider adding also: b balance, k balance, coral vitalizer, phol's extra. With a tank of your size the cost should not be too crazy. It can be quite frustrating to establish a new balance in your tank with zeovit method, but after it is established and working well I feel you can add almost twice the food while keeping nutrients under control. More food happier fish, happier corals. This is a picture of my tank after 9 months running with a zeolite reactor, zeostart, fauna marin additives. Good growth good color and happy me.

Hi Toothman (nice ID name)

Can you detail more your experience of Zeovit + fauna marin additives here? I found more people start with this combination and would like to learn more here. What are the major difference than using Zeovit additives?

thanks.

This is not an easy system to run, this is why there is an entire website/reef support/ community dedicated to those interested in the system. I would download the pdf, and read it several times, understand what each part and additive does what. Don't just throw things on, and expect results, the system is not a cure for improper husbandry. In fact, I would not consider unless A. Your tank is already nutrient poor with consistent parameters B. Unless your tank begins from scratch, with zeovit. I agree the system allows for nutrient forgiveness, once you understand the idea behind it, this in turn allows the fish to have plenty of food :) I would also mention that NSW values are desired, which are typically lower values than traditional approaches, or even what most salts mix at. That being said, RB is usually desired most for salt, however I hear of TMP and Red Sea, Not Pro, being used well. I used TMP for years, I now use BW Neozeo salt, I like it's alk. Just be aware of all the steps involved, passive carbon, kneaded daily, and cleansed properly, flow rate for stones, pumping the reactor twice per day, dosing twice per day, testing frequently, and major observance. Vacations are stressful enough for us reefers, so do consider this too if you run zeovit, best of luck, a great system for a passionate reefer :)

Zeovit is a great method if done properly. So read read and read ..patience is key just like any other method. And once you get things stabilize with proper bacteria for zeovit to do what it suppose to with the basic four. When you add other additives do it one at a time so u can see how your tank reacts. Remember what it says on the bottle is the max recommended dosage starts lower if you have a stablished tank already. Like i said read read i can go on and on. I know the best results i had is when i was doing zeovit. Goodluck

My tank is already up and running.

Tank Params - 11/25/2015
56 Gallons - Net
Salinity: 1.026
Ca: 430
Alk: 7.5
Mag: 1300
PO4: 0
Nitrate: 0

Currently SPS dominant with some GSP and small colony of mixed zoas (about 100 heads or so).

Some Acros are turning turd brown while others are starting to improve.

I have 4 fish - 2 Clowns, 1 Yellow Watchman Goby, 1 Yellow Coris Wrasse.

Today the exact package I listed above is on sale for $266. Really debating on buying it! I've been reading the past few weeks on this. Really starting to understand the system and what it all does. Playing with my own dosing schedule and what not just to see how rigorous it would be.

How expensive is it to run Zeovit for a month or so?

So you really can't just run it a month.. I don't think..

I started running ZEOvit about a month ago now, it ran me $243 because I needed the reactor which was $170.

I started my first initial cycle which is essentially have of the ZEOlite stones. I change it out January 15 and thats when I use a full bag for 6-8 weeks at a time.

So really, depending on your tank size it will vary. There isn't really a "price-per-month" as some bottles of mine will last 500 days and others 200.

I also run Zeovit and FM balling light. I also converted my 1 year old tank to it just under a year ago. I've gone from a tank full of algae and sickly corals to a tank devoid of algae and brightly coloured healthy corals, so I'm very much in favour of it.

As others have said, start with the basics of Zeostart, Zeobak and sponge power and take it slow, it is a very good method and the bottles last a long time so it's not overly expensive IMO

Here's my tank 1 year ago before Zeo

And here it is a year later

I am a beginner of Zeovit.

Much wonder how long it tools in order for a zeovit tank to stay zero both no3 and po4 irregardless how you feed your fish?

As of now after going almost 2 months of zeovit dosing , my No3 stay 0.20 ppm while my po4 around 0.10 which in the past I stay at 0.03-0.06 ppm with biopellet and non zeovit dosing at that time .

Now , I am not able to feed my fish as frequent as while I am still using biopellet then.

I want to go slow and I know this is the basic condition for success but just wish to know more on your experience before you achieve the nice tank you are enjoying now.

Cheers,

MD

It took my tank about 4 or 5 months to start to reduce PO4. i find that dosing Biomate helps to keep the PO4 in check, do you dose that ?

ZEOvit Noob Question!

Thanks for your input. That is a very encouraging words indeed, I feel relief as it means I am still moving on the fifth track and hopefully my po4 will be going to zero at the soonest. I wish to give zeovit a chance and not wanting to return nor mix biopellet along the way .

By the way , what is biomate? I add a vial of biodigest once in a while can this be ok?

Biomate is one of the Zeovit products, it helps to remove mulm and detritus and also helps to lower PO4. If you look on the Korallen Zucht website, you will find it.
