Zeovit - System

Hello James

May I ask what does Zeostart 3 do? What is the purpose of dosing it three times a day as opposed to once a day? The bottle states 2.5ml per 250 ml and do not overdose as this is highly concentrated.

Please explain

Thanks
Mike

Sorry to intervene but those figures are incorrect.

The Zeostart 3 bottle states "2ml per 250 gallons daily"

4.5ml per day is 'suicide' unless your tank is 600 gallons and in its first 6-12months

i really do not know what is in my tank that is causing the high po4 .

the moment i lowered the amount of zeolite in the reactor and also lowered the flow rate in the reactor , my corals are recovering with high poly extension

Hey Karsseboom,

I know that tank very well! One of my absolute favorites. I just bought a new tank today... Official announcement!!! I HAVE BOUGHT SUNNYX'S RIMLESS REEF 2.0!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is being delivered NOW! I hope to have a zeo tank as nice as that someday :) 246g Starfire Rimless. Oh YEAH!!!

Wow nice, does it come with all the corals and everything? I think you should post up some pictures when you get things going.

while I agree with James posts, at the end of the day, for a regular reef tank, you will end up doing what the guide sais .... I do liek the approach of building up to your target zeolith ... but the guide is for normal reef tanks with moderate fish and sand bed, so you will keep increasing it till you get to where guide sais.

I have been using it for many years as well, on many different systems, all of mine and some for friends and family. the guide is prety spot on.

about feeding at night, I dont believe in that, as corals do their growing during the day time.

I also disagree with the lower ammount of zeolites used, the zeo gurus such as alexander and bob (aged salt) actually ran 20% more zeolites than recomended.

I would suggest adding the recomended ammount of zeolites and manipulate the flow rate, this way it is easy to modify the effiecency of the zeolites by increasing or decreasing flow as required.

with wet skimming it does help to get the po4 down

Hi Ryan and Allmost,

Hope all is well!

Thank you for the comments. CherCM and I will eventually increase the amount of zeo, but we will do it slowly. The reason why I start so low is to show new users how to ease into the correct amount of zeo for their tank. When I was a new zeo user, I followed the zeo guide perfectly. I experienced some tissue recession, pale coloration, and in some cases... death. I want to show new users of zeo that you can slowly and safely increase to the perfect amount of zeo for your tank. The reason why I emptied my zeo reactor and started new, was to go through the process with Cher. I will be taking my own advice. I want reefers to learn that there are other ways to use the zeo media in a slower/safer fashion. We will be increasing/tweaking our zeo amounts to achieve our desired coloration. Its only been three days, so your going to have to give me a little longer, but I assure you, there is a method to my madness :). We will be assessing our dosing/media/flow every 5 days or so. Stay tuned! James

Phosphate is now .10. Dosed 6 drops of zeobac tonight. Dosed 3 tsp. of oyster feast. I expect my phosphate to level out here. Maybe decrease a little more.

That's great news CherCM! Lets give it two more days with daily testing and see where we are at. Please dose 6 drops of zeobac near your reactor. We are going to slowly/safely bring down your phosphate. Lets wait two more days, and we will increase the flow through the reactor. When are you feeding your fish again?

James,

I am an absolute novice but your method makes a lot of sense to me. The last thing I want is my buddy who tried Zeo and failed at it to say I told you not to use that garbage. I have seen beautiful Zeo reefs. I believe that good things take time and only bad things happen quickly.

An organized, careful and thoughtful approach should not be criticized. You are kind of like the Yoda of the Zeo. The force is strong within you.

I am confident with your help successful I will be

Zeo

Zeo

My tank is heavily stocked and I feed heavily. My fish are large and fat. They are spoiled. But everyone is happy and looks very healthy.

For those who like me are wondering? Does how often you feed make a difference when using Zeo? It is logical that feeding fish multiple times leads to higher phosphate levels. I assume the zeovite can be manipulated to get to goal.

LOL. Thanks, Mike. Brown... Fix I can! Dead... Fix I cant!

Excellent questions. I encourage you to keep your fish healthy. It is important that you have a routine in place for feeding your tank. Ensure that your fish are fed, but not overfed. With that said, a tank with a dense fish population will require a more aggressive zeo approach. It can be done though. What is important to realize is your zeo will be tailored towards a feeding routine. If you stop feeding your fish and continue to use an aggressive zeo approach, you can experience negative effects. This touches on why I recommend a lesser zeo amount. It does allow more room for error. You can also achieve deep rich coloration with lesser zeo. The perfect amount of zeo can be determined through frequent testing and a slow steady increase in zeo usage. Hope that helps.

Hi Cher, I am eager to see what your phosphate will increase to with this amount of food. If all of your fish consume this amount of food, we will need to be a little more aggressive with your zeo usage. Now, when I say "more aggressive" we are still moving in a slow steady manor. This doesn't mean we are going to instantly dump the zeo products in your tank as a solution. We will increase with frequent testing. We want to achieve the targeted zeo end state, but we want to do it safely.

Warmest Regards,

James

Phosphate
6/1 .18
6/2 .12
6/3 .10
6/4 .09

Routine includes
6 drops of zeobac nightly
1.2ml of zeostart3 daily broken into 4 doses
300ml of zeo media with flow of 16oz every 10 seconds
3 tsp. oyster feast every other night

Tonight, I will be increasing the flow through the reactor to 16oz every 9 seconds.

Thank you, Plyle02, Sincerely appreciated. :)

Tonight I dosed 6 drops of zeobac and fed 3 tsp. of oyster feast. Flow is now 16oz in 9 seconds. My phosphate tested at .09. I tested prior to feeding.

One quick edit: For those that are wondering what's in the Tupperware containers... One is a sand bed for my wrasse. The other is a black lepto with yellow growth edge and yellow eyes. I keep it in the container to protect it from my file fish.

Hey James. Corals look great! Just wondering, you have massive flow on a few of those pieces, some are rocking like mad. Is that OK. I am actually considering going with Zeo for a tank when I move into my new place in about 4 months. I am keeping track of what you are doing here.

Thanks

Neil
