Looking good, Hung! Love the clean look. Should be a classic zeo tank.

So Ive been using basic 4 for 3 weeks and it seems things are worse and not better. Since stopping gfo phosphates are going up from .46 to .57 with a ultra low phosphte photometer. Water is murky. Green algea has increased colors ok but not spectacular. Polyp extension ok. I have a 100 gal net 75-80 gal tank using 1 liter zeoliths in a reactor, 3 drops of zeobak and zeostart, 0.8 ml zeofood. Things seem to worsen to the point Im about to bail on this. Ive started back gfo and have been doing water changes weekly about 35 gal each time. Ive cut feeding way back. I know its going to take time for things to improve but my impression was that the zeoliths were so powerful they would help with the phosphate its not been my experience so far. So where do I go from here?

Zeovit is not an overnight fix it takes time for the good bacteria to build up and start consuming the n and p thats why its a slower transition from gfo give it some time the results are well worth it..just like anything else in this hobby patience is key it doesn't matter what system you're are using..goodluck and happy reefingSo Ive been using basic 4 for 3 weeks and it seems things are worse and not better. Having transitioned from Fauna Marin's Ultralith system to the Zeovit system 9 weeks ago, there hasn't been a lot of change in colouration but I dare say the growth rate has accelerated a lot!

I don't understand your question.
I would purchase some faunna marin reference water first, to test your test kit it should test at 4 ppb. I have a hanna 736 hi, to make this kit test correctly you need to take two vials of tank water, add powder to one and wait 2 hrs, then zero the powderless vial and test your reagent vial. The hanna kit is great best I have had, it just only works well if you do this. Also buff the glass a lot. If your water still test crazy high it is safe to assume you just have too much latent phosphate in the substrate and rocks. You have to reevaluate your husbantry, is your ro/di good enough, water changes frequent enough, probably your gravel is just too full of detritus, are your parameters correct, often over looked potassium gets depleted very quickly with carbon dosing, salifert makes the only kit that works that I have owned. Acros are really very stupid, just give them good water and they are forced to grow well. you can pm.
hi toothman, where did you find out about running the test like this????? 2 hrs seems like a long time to wait, maybe 2 minutes????
I utilize the zeovit basic 4.
Zeolites in a reactor, 0.3ml X2 a day for zeostart3, 3-4 drops of zeobac 3 times per week and occasional drops of zeofood. 2-3 ml of flatworm stop and coral booster a couple of times per week.
Finally got through this entire thread. Very informative. I tried this system on my new upgrade (125 gal.) for the first 2 1/2 months, but had to quit using it. I followed the 14 day start up guide and then the regular user guide to a tee. I only used the "Basic 4" during this time period. About 2 weeks into this system, I noticed what I thought was diatoms, no problem, I thought it would resolve itself in a few weeks. It did. However, a golden brown substance reappeared within a few days after I thought I was through with the diatom period. I started to think this stuff was something other than diatoms. I sought help on the Zeovit forum, submitted photos when requested, but no one on this forum was able to help me. It was suggested that I cut back on the amount of Zeostart I was dosing, I did. Brown stuff still on sand bed. It was suggested that I should stop dosing all together for a few days. I did. The brown substance seemed to dissipate a little but as soon as I began dosing again, it (brown stuff) reappeared. It was suggested that I should try using Coral Snow and Biomate together, I did. I continued to dose the Snow and biomate for approximately 3 weeks. The brown substance was still on my sand bed and would seem to come back with a vengeance after cleaning the sand bed during water change. To be honest, I received very little help from the Zeovit forum, specifically, the "more experienced" members. Most suggestions came from posters with maybe a month more experience than I had with this system. Since I could not determine what this substance actually was, I decided to stop dosing any Zeovit products and began running GFO. Almost immediately, the brown substance subsided and my sand bed was clear again. I really wanted to be successful using this system. I believed in it, researched it while I was waiting to start up my new tank. I would really like to try again. However, I'm afraid to because my tank is doing well right now and don't want to disrupt what is working.
As I read through this post, I heard the argument as to whether it is necessary, other tanks doing just as well without using the full Zeovit system etc.. Unless I missed it, I did not hear an argument as to what, if any, are the advantages to using the Zeovit sytem. As I previously stated, I would like to try my hand at this system again at some point, but feel that there is simply not enough help/advise out there. I'm not really sure if this is my rant or just my 2 cents. Sorry for the long winded post.
