Zoo Question????

I can't figure out what's the matter with zoos in my tank. Everything else (clams, hammers, mushrooms, kenya trees, bubble anemones, brains, flower anemones, frogspawns, as well as all my inverts and fish) does great. My zoos don't seem to want to open very often and then disappear.

My fish include: green chromis, red firefish, purple firefish, 2 clowns, lawnmower blennie, hippo tang, powder blue tang, sailfin tang.

Temp at 80, salinity 1.024, calc 440, ammo, nitrite and nitrate 0, ph 8.2. I have a sump with a ASM G2 skimmer.

Anyone know why I can't keep zoos? They're supposed to be the easiest!

zoa eating nudibranch?? look very very closely, they often blend in with the zoos.. check out the zoanthid forum, there is a method to dip them.. id ask there..

Nope, stephany, I don' t have them, or nudibranches. I was having trouble before and just assumed it was my new foxface so I got rid of the foxface! :(

Well, watch the tank for a while and try to notice if any fish are nipping them, bumping them, or something... Failing that and any nudi infestations, try moving them in your tank? Maybe they're just not happy where they are. Too much light, too little light, too much flow, too little flow, or all of the above? Sometimes when all else fails, moving a coral helps.

Also, do you have a measure for your alk? I'd imagine that with good pH and calc its right where it should be, but doesnt hurt to ask

Not sure on the alk. I don't have a good test kit for that. I assumed that if calc and ph were ok, then the alk would be too.

I have various zoos from different reefers and stores at all different places in the tank, from the bottom all the way to the top, low to high current. I'm dumbfounded!

id check for sundials, or nudi's.. also check the alk, even if ph and cal are in check alk could be way off..it wouldnt hurt to dip them either either lugols ot TMPCC..lugols does work though.. and also are all of your zoo's closed??

My Hippo had to go because it loved to eat my zoas. Bought a very expensive frag only to catch my Hippo eating them as soon as the lights went out.

Nope, the blue has been in there for almost 2 years and hasn't touched anything. I guess I'm going to have to sit up all night and spy!

Mine was fine to untill I made some changes in rock work and added a few other corals. A good night watching if nothing else it is realy interesting to see all the little night critters. Better than a good movie or book to me.
