Although, With the T on the return and a valve to the skimmer, wouldnt the pressure to the skimmer be limited by the headpressure via water's path of least resistance through the return?
1 pump for the whole tank?

You can get by without a pump for the skimmer or have it strictly supplemental. I get quite a bit of foam already from my durso style standpipes. And 100% of the tanks water drains through the skimmer. From the skimmer run to your fuge and then back to your main display.
