10 months AI Sol Blue LEDs- take a look

Very nice display Paul! Great growth with the AI, I have been contimplating on going 100% LED's. Chef

What a great tank. I showed the vid to my wife and she said it was the best tank she had ever seen. Now she wants one just like it! (well perhaps a little smaller :) ).

I have a question...
There seems to be something added since your TOTM pics. With the LEDs in the video there seems to be some sort of rim around the tank opening. What is that? Am I seeing things?

Thanks for showing such a GREAT tank.

-John

I needed some way to keep the fish from jumping out of the tank. I had used bird netting and suction cups before, but it was too hard to remove and get into the tank. The rim you see is moulding that has the birdnetting attached to the inside. It was a big improvement over the suction cups. Much easier.
Thank your wife for me for the nice compliment.

Not trying to start a debate at all because I hate that on forums. Great tank before I say this! People have to understand he has this tank is a sun room. His tank is getting natural lighting from the sun. I don't think anyone has had those colors with SPS corals under AI in 10 months. If your out there, I would like to see pics, but I don't think there is. Keep up the good work!

Though the tank is in a sunroom, the direct sunlight it gets is limited, especially at this time of year. In spring and summer shafts of light penetrate the tank and you would be amazed how yellow natural sunlight looks at shallow depth. It still looks beautiful though. The front of the tank gets almost no natural light. The glass of the sunroom is tinted insulated e-glass. I don't know what that does to the quality or spectrum of the light that reaches the tank. The point made about the natural light being partly responsible for the colors of the sps would be a logical assumption except for the fact that the tank was 6 years in that room with halides and they never looked as good as they do now in all that time.

Looks like a few fish are missing fins, the paracantharus and siganus. Is there a bully in the tank or something else altogether? Just curious.

It was some sort of fin rot. It happened when they were introduced to the tank (years ago) and their fins have ever grown back.

Wow your tank is truly amazing. Makes me sure glad I went with AI sols. How long has your tank been running for?

The tank has been up for seven years. The Sol Blues have been up for one year now. I'm planning on getting 2 more and doing some changes to the aquascape on the sides. It's a little top heavy in those locations. I want to thin it out so more light can penetrate to the bottom. I should be able to put in a lot more coral that way.

You're tank is simply amazing!!! I strive to do the same with my AI lit tank. Yet in the video is your tank that blue? When I set my AI's to 100% they don't look like the nice, deep blue you have. I usually end of setting to to a 60:100:100 ratio to get that blue you seem to have in your video. Either way, fantastic work! :)

The settings when I took that video were 100:100:100. They are at that intensity from noon time till 6 pm. The light does look blueish like a phoenix 14k.
Are you sure you have the sol blues and not the sol whites? Maybe the devise your watching the video on makes it appear bluer than it really is? Just a few guesses.

Cameras and video always look bluer than our eyes see, unless taken in RAW and adjusted, or the white balance set.
