10 months AI Sol Blue LEDs- take a look

Awesome tank. I am not getting that coloration with my AI sol blues. Your tank is beautiful.

Thank you. I have had other people say to me they are not getting the color they want from the lights. Some even gave up and changed back to their old lighting. Remember that coloration problems can occur with sps reefkeeping anytime, and there can be many different reasons for it. A change in lighting may be all it takes to tip the balance one way or the other. I also want people to know I don't attribute the look of my tank entirely to the lighting . It takes a lot of work and care for me to get my tank to look the way it does and the lighting is just one part of it.
All I can recommend to a fellow reefer is that with perseverence and infinite patience, you can get success.

The AIs are perfect for my setup. The halides looked like junk hanging above the tank in comparison. Also , the modular design of the AIs allowed me to light more areas of the tank where it just was not possible with the halide fixtutures. Its been nothing but a win-win decision from the start. If I change anything it would be to upgrade a few of the SOLs to Vega.

Hi paul,i love your reef, how are your red an pink sps with AI sol?some guys dont have sucess with this colors with AI,what you think?

The pinks are definitely not as intense as they are with halides or especially T5. The reds still look red to me but I have pink and red color vision problems anyway so I am not a good judge. There is nothing wrong with the growth of these corals though. My pink stylo grows like crazy.
I do miss that powdery pink on the stylo. Small price to pay for the other benifits. Maybe the new LED color combinations found on the more recent fixtures will be better with reds and pinks.

Thanks for the video, truely inspirational! Also dispells so many theories about LED lighting and mixing SPS, LPS, and softies :hmm3: Awesome job :celeb1:

Awesome Tank!!! I'm sure you've been asked this before but what are you using to get the Tunzes to rotate?

Thanks.
Rob

That depends on the time of year. Right now the sun passes pretty much right overhead. The light fixtures themselves block out most of it but shafts of light get through between some of them. It is a nice effect with amazing shimmer. I wish there was a way to get more of the natural light but I can't see how. In the winter no direct sunlight reaches the front of the tank at all. The back side gets some, but at an odd angle through the front of the acrylic instead of from above. This makes viewing less than optimal with reflection making it hard to see into the tank. If I lived farther south, it would be better.

The Tunzes are mounted on Vertex Moceans. It works really well but you have to be careful of the power cords on the Tunzes. The constant back and forth motion can wear them out. I use zip ties to anchor them and keep them as straight as possible. Still over the past 4 years 2 pumps stopped working because of broken cords.

Paul,

How well behaved are the blue throat triggers in your tank? I know that they are rather docile but I have not kept one in a reef tank.

Regards,
