1000 Gallon Build- Here we go- Lots of Pictures

Crap- I thought I had a pretty kick *** ro di system but you might've right Dave. It might be the damn chlorine. Ok- I'll run some tests when I get home. On the road for a few days.

Worse case, just get a 3 stage filter body and add a 5 micron sediment and a pair of Pentek chlorplus filters. Then put that in front of your RODI filter. That's what I did to eliminate chlorinates. You can get yourself either the standard 10" filter bodies or get the 20x4.5 big blue style filter bodies and the correct size filters to go with them. The bottom set of 3 is my chloramine prefilter setup. I think the total cost of the filter housing and 3 cartridges was around $120 going with the 10" filters.. Above that is my Spectrapure 100 GPD 1:1 UHE RODI. The nice thing about this whole setup is that the should improve the longevity of all the filters in the Spectrapure unit while also removing all the chloramines. You might give Gibbs a call at Spectrapure because he can offer you a turnkey perfilter setup for the chloramines.

I haven't seen anyone mention dissolved O2 levels in response to your fish deaths. That is also seriously worth considering. You'd be surprised how low your O2 levels can be, even with significant air injection from the skimmer.

Have you truly ruled out environmental/household contaminants? Any risk of contamination with bug killers, air fresheners, car exhaust, etc?

Have you examined your sandbed for evidence of hydrogen sulfide buildup?

A very hard to identify/pinpoint deadly parasite might be present, like gill flukes. So many possibilities, but those are just a few thoughts. Hope you figure it out.

Zero chance with household contaminants. With regards to dissolved O2- I've got two massive skimmer pumps
Pumping air into my tank. I can't imagine that's an issue
But at this point- who knows.

I'm going to check for chlorine first- then start looking for
Other issues.

Chlorine and chloramine both zero in my water test. Test kit arrived today- I tested and water is perfect. Time to keep searching for th cause of the issues. No new fish are going on till I figure his out. All other fish doing great. Eating like pigs. Will keep you guy up to date.

I'm thinking maybe something other than water quality.... but you've probably ruled these out.
How old were they? Could they have died from something like stress or old age? Bad food or swim bladder issues?

Doubt it. The search for the culprit continues. Very possible my supplier just had shitty stock. Who knows. I'm determined to get back to normal!

Since your water has checked out and your other fish are good... might just have to toss it up to "Mother Nature".

Maybe this is a sign you need to get coral [emoji6]

What kit(s) did you end up testing with?

I'll have to check.

Maybe you just had some fish that had been cyanide caught. That can kill fish many months after the fact.

This makes sense and might well be the cause. Since the last fish death- zero issues. Everyone else is healthy, eating like a pig. Knock on wood, things seem to have stabilized. I'm going to be very cautious replenishing the stock.

Update- have been doing weekly water changes. With the use of fans and my Apex water temp now hovers between 80 and 80.5 in the summer. Ive turned down the AC in my fish room so the room is a cool 62 degrees. Ive been running carbon in the media reactors, changing filter socks regularly.

Starting tomorrow, we are going to take out some of the gravel at the bottom. I want to minimize the build up in the gravel. When we first did the rock scape, the guy I hired to build my rock structure put too much gravel on the bottom in hindsight. So we will minimize to about an inch of gravel (if not less)

I will take weekly photos and update them here. There have been some down times in the household as the fish loss in the past has taken its toll but Im determined to make this tank live up to its full potential.

The rehab begins tomorrow! Photos coming soon.

I've been following this build since its inception. Glad you're sticking it out and going to provide new updates! Definitely looking forward for what's to come.

1000 Gallon Build- Here we go- Lots of Pictures

Here is the new baseline. Doing some rockscaping and gravel removal tomorrow. Then slowly add fish and *gasp* maybe some corals:

Ignore the lighting color. I had to turn down the blues in my iPhone. Impossible to capture true color in the tank.

And because the tank is so big, you don't see some of the details as I have to stand so far away. Some of the fish are on the other side.
