1000 Gallon Build- Here we go- Lots of Pictures

So much jealous...

Future Tanked episode? How was your experience with them?

Thats how all this started. I actually contacted them after being unsuccessful locally and sent them my plans and renderings and asked if they would like to use my house as an episode.

This was before they are all into celebrity homes which I am far from. In fairness to them, I had talked to 3 different tank companies/installers. Every single one would hem and haw at giving me a bid, telling me how complicated the process is, how much work they would need to do to figure out the flow and blah blah blah.

In essence, they were trying to jack up the price of the build after seeing the size and location of my house.

Once I got in touch with ATM- they were the most professional, to the point of the bunch. I had a proposal and specifications within a couple of days and everything they said made sense.

We decided to contract with them but some posts here on the forum questioning their use of a wet dry filter made me do some research and I ended up using them for just the tank and stand and did filtration on my own with Royal Exclusiv.

The quality of the tank is good. The seams are great- the tank is polished. Its super thick. However there were some episodes along the way that severely irritated me that left a bad taste in my mouth (sending the wrong size stand for example)

All in all- decent experience. I like the quality of the tank and Im glad Im doing the filtration on my own.

Thats how all this started.

Agreed. For the most part they seem to make a really nice and overbuilt tank, of course there have been some failures... but I'm sure every tank builder has had that.

I didn't even bother to contact them for our display tank, just thought the celebrity factor would make their price too high.

I also kind of like having a personal connection with people I'm working with, didn't think I'd get that there.

Went with a more mom and pop builder for the display, but they've seem to have really grown in the last few years.

Went with a bigger company for the frag tank, and it was also a very pleasant experience, just different. Was more by the book and to the point. Think I actually preferred it haha...

So basically ignore all I wrote above :lolspin::lolspin::lolspin:

I like watching tanked. But I remember reading on the thread where the guys giant L shaped tank broke a seam and he lost everything (can't remember who it was but it was like a 10k g + tank), and then I remember watching the show and they put it a new tank and it has a leak so they throw on some acrylic cement to patch it last minute. Hope it works out ok for you.

Look up "coral tank from Canada". Was a beautiful tank. But I think 1 of the best things about that whole thread is the way peter tried to do everything the best way he could find. I learned sooo much from that thread.

That was my favorite thread on Reef Central. When I heard of his tank failure, it affected me. I was genuinely sad.

Absolutely beautiful and we'll planned out. From the house to the aquarium to the gull wing door Mercedes. Just stunning.

Thanks- all is not planned as well as I thought. We had to cut the doors to get the sump in. It was 4 inches too big. Oh well- my fault for discovering royal exclusiv after framing was done. I thought that might be the case. Pictures to follow at the end of the day today.

So here is the plumbing being installed: We attached the schedule 80 PVC to the bottom of the stand for the sump. I wanted the sump elevated 6 inches to be able to clean under it and to put the pipes underneath and hide as many as possible.

Now the bad (good) news. Sump didnt fit in the doors. I expected this but we tried anyways as when I found Royal Exclusiv, the framing for the fish room was already complete. So my contractor, cut the wood framing and slid in the sump. Now what? I have a big *** hole in my wall.

Fear not, this i actually good news as I didnt like the doors hiding my beautiful sump in the first place. What we are going to do is frame the bottom part of the opening, and put in a window. This way, when I come home, I can quickly see whats happening with the sump through the window. Then we are going to take the doors and cut the bottom off and essentially have access on the top with half doors. This makes the fish room functional ( I have access to the top) and esthetic- (I can see my LED lit sump when I drive home)

Rest of the plumbing gets finished on Tuesday. Move in date is 10 days away. Im hoping for water by the end of next week.

Look damn good Sam!! I love the idea of the window! That's brilliant! The rest of your house looks stunning! Feel free to adopt me anytime!

Yup. During framing, I discivered some empty space behind her closet. We framed it and added a staircase and voila- two story closet.
