1000 Gallon Build- Here we go- Lots of Pictures

I must admit, I really enjoyed seeing the build of your amazing home more so than your amazing reef tank. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is stunning. Very nice!

You could just leave the apex in your sump area. It really doesn't have to run anything by your actual tank. Just monitor and control your equipment.

Yup. That's what I'll probably have to do. Remind me to tell you of the time where just last week I almost lost the whole tank.

Didn't I read somewhere that you have "extra" pipes under your slab from tank to sump room? If so, in Apex terms, those are called "Apex data line conduits" :)

Hi all- quick question- What's the feedback on the Hanna Checkers for checking alkalinity? Tank is doing great but my alkalinity has dropped a bit. We are going to install a dosing pump and Apex. That should make some of you happy. I finally gave in! :)

But with regards to alk testing- any feedback one which is the best test? Appreciate the feedback.

Such a tease!

:clown:

Long story short- was out of town, get a call that the sump level is super low from my daughter. Apparently skimmer went haywire, overflowed and I lost water. Scott called it. Should have listened. Now we are in the process of installing a float switch to shut off skimmer.

Also- everything else has been going great but alk has been low. I'm runny around 6.4. I noticed this as th corals started to shrink up a bit and a quick test showed the low alk- hence the doser and apex to monitor. No calcium reactor right now- maybe later. Going to just dose alk and ca for now.

I need to let th corals plump up again and I'll post a FTS. Should have stuck with fish only as they are thriving! The corals are a pain in the ***.:lolspin:

The hanna alk tester is great. Fast and reliable. It is important to clean the vials well and keep them free of smudge from your fingers. I use a cleaning towel from my shades, works perfect. Apparently, there seems some problems with the reagent quality sometimes but I had never any problem.

Have you thought about kalkwater for you ato? I understand that it might not be nearly enough for a system your size but maybe someone else cab chime in?

I second HappySchneider, the Hanna Checker is great. There is now a Alk tester that reads in Dkh as well. You get 25 to 30 tests and you can order the new reagent online for $7 when you run out. In my opinion the digital readout is the way to go. Also it takes the human eye out of the equation which is really hard to distinguish color change with other kits. I have used Salifert in the past but now having the Hanna Checker I won't go back.

I just gave in on the Apex too haha. Any chance you could post a couple updated photos of the tank and corals? Love to see em!

I saw the dkh tester from Hanna online. very cool. Placing an order now.

excellent decision. Just a word of caution, I was so amazed by the ease, I ordered other checkers from Hanna as well. While the low phosphorous is really great (in my opinion really the only reliable way of testing low level of phosphates), the calcium checker is useless. Titration tests are much faster and I would say similarly as accurate and definitely reliable enough to help you keep everything constant.

Oh, and when you order the tester, order some refill at the same time! It is a real issue if you need to test alk and you ran out of liquid at that instant.

So I fianally got an apex and had it installed. Yay! I know some of you were waiting for me to break down and get it. Only problem is I can't get it to communicate to the network. It's plugged in- it says "no comm". Which I assume is no communication. Any suggestions?? Tried to power cycle, plug unplug, reboot, etc etc- nothing.

Any of you Apex geniuses have any ideas?

Do you have the new version or old? I ask because the new version has wifi. If you have the classic did you hook it up to your network via a gaming gateway or something similar?

You might have to manually set the IP in network settings. Or switch on the DHCP function to connect to it on the display.

I had issues when I first tried to set mine up.Their live tech support is really the only viable option for assistance because otherwise..it is just fumbling through all the possible fixes by yourself with no outcome.
So here is how to get an actual tech to talk to you;
-fill out their support "request form" and email to them.
-try the steps that they email back ( within a day or so)
-reply that it did not work ( because it probably won't) and they will set up a real telephone call!!!!
-HAPPY TIMES!...GREAT SUCCESS!!! now you can fix all the issues when they call. They are very good and will have patience. They will even give you a time of day for the call.
-and after everything is working perfectly, you will forgive them for the initial heartache and headache!

I tried everything. Changing the ip settings. Turning off and on DCHP etc etc. Spent an hour and a half last night.

This is precisely the reason I didnt want to get started with this mickey mouse system.
Ugh- I don't have time to sit on hold for tech support. Time to call someone to get this set up for me.

With DHCP enabled, toggle through the Apex display and see if there is an IP address installed. If there is, from your web browser, type in the ip address with the port number at the end.. The default port number is:80

This is what you want to type assuming the apex IP address is 192.168.1.25

192.168.1.25:80

If the Apex is connecting to your network and the computer you are using to access the Apex is on the same network, that should get you in to the default Apex web interface.

Where are you seeing "No Comm"? If it's via the browser, try a different web browser. Some web browsers can be problematic. Another thing to try is a different Ethernet port on your router.. Lastly, if you use the display and toggle to the network settings page, there is a menu for Fusion. Enable Fusion and also enable Fusion Control. Those will be needed steps for setting up Fusion though you can also do that via the native web interface assuming you can access it.
