120x30 x30

Thanks for liking my avatar and not loving it! :D

Anyways...I'm aware acrylic can scratch, but I don't seem to have any other options for a viewing pane over 24".

On these plywood tanks the viewing is 23" or a tad less. But the tanks are 30" deep.

its a slow process doing the epoxy. probably a couple of weeks more. put a third coat on the back tonight.

removed the windows today.

Hey, quick question....did you assemble the whole tank frame with nails? From the reading ive done and the smaller plywood tanks Ive assembled both epoxy and fiberflass coated Ive found that using screws and either marine woodglue and or liquid nails is the safest way to go, the screws hold the joints together better against the pressure where nails may give out over time. Either way looks good and best of luck

nails were used to assemble the frame. i'm not afraid of the nail puncturing the epoxy. kentE has a 96x36x30 plywood tank built the same way with no problems. thanks for the compliments.

All of it is glued with gorilla glue but more than that the epoxy is insanely strong.

Hey Joe and Kent,

I'm looking at building a 240gal woody:rollface: One view, perhaps 3 views. You guys build a little different than Garf:confused: So I'm wondering, can you post the steps like Garf does on thier site and a meterials list; also where to get them? Does the epoxy meet the NFS 61 and other specs that Garf recomends? (I want to raise fish only in this tank):) What steps do I take and what materials are needed when fiberglassing the seams? Garf says not to build over 24" tall. How are you guys going 30" tall:confused: I already have 1/2 acrylic I'll be using for the window panes. Sorry for all the ?s, I just want to get this project going!:D

inquiring minds want to know how it's progressing :reading:

30 wide by 30 high are the dimensions I've always wanted. When will commercail aquarium builders get hip to building tanks as wide as they are high?

Not much movement. We need a bigger building. Cant stand it up in the puny one.

72"x24"x24" 180's have been around awhile their Gary:D

Yeah I know thats not what you meant.

Went to Strong Museum tonight. Boy I am inspired to start the big plywood tank I have been thinking about.

One day I will do the 120"x36"x36" I have been wanting.

sorry for no movement. i ran out of epoxy and time and good weather. just got 1 1/2 gallons of epoxy. we need a 10' tall ceiling to epoxy the ends. then its on to glass, leak testing, overflows, surge device bulkheads ,closed loop bulkheads, spray bar bulkheads, stand , canopy, lighting..........

30x30 is pretty sweet gary. the reason i went with those dimensions is it fits the room.

didnt know you all were watching that close. i promise to keep everyone posted and to get this project done soon.

things really slowed down on this project with deer season then the holidays. i have a little epoxy work to do then the glass ,stand ,and plumbing.

lighting for the tank will be 3x 250 watt mh useing icecap ballasts and 4x 54 watt t5 useing a icecap 660. here are my mh reflectors. they are sunlight supply super-sun reflectors.
