120x30 x30

brian, i estimate cost will be about $1000 for the tank. i have to build the stand and canopay yet. i wont scrape the sides or the back. just the glass. the plywood is 3/4". i will put on 3x the recomended epoxy. it will be about 1/8" thick. the corners and seams will have 6" fiberglass cloth the help reinforce them. i think the real strength comes from the 45's in the corners. kent's tank is built the same way.

WOW that's alot of $$ I was thinking it cost about $500. Good luck im sure it will be beautiful. :) Thanks for the info

i'll buy regular plate glass local. kents low iron glass seems to be soft and scratch easy. there seems to be problems with starfire pitting.

I'd recommend green. I really don't see the BIG deal with white glass. I went with it because I saw all the hype about it in the big tank forum. I think it's the way to go if you wear all black and have funny small square glasses.

Well Kent you have successfully alienated yourself from yet another group....A few more and you'll be like me.

I am really enjoying this thread...Its making me take a good long stare at that pile of 3/4 inch Hardwood Ply just sitting in my garage. Perhaps I can convince my wife that I need a biscuit joiner to build her some furniture???

the epoxy is slow going.

we (kent and i) will hold a plywood tank tour meet when its done. probably next spring. thanks to all that have looked. dont hesitatate to comment or ask questions.

Congrats on your plywood tank! I'm thinking of doing the same thing with dimensions of 72x30x30. I was told that with a viewing pane of over 30", I should go with acrylic due to the strength.
Some people on "another" reefing site laughed at me when I said that I was working on a plywood tank. Shall we turn our noses up at them? :)

you're going to be unhappy with acrylic. Yes, it's very clear but will scratch too easily to truly enjoy in that setup.
