Hi all today I just purchased a used 1500 gallon tank dimension is 120 x 60 x 54 with 1.5" acrylic all around and has center overflow with fake coral insert around overflow this will be my first saltwater tank it's just price was so good couldn't pass it up well at least I think it's good
It include
2 sump underneath each is 84 x 24 x 18
2 reef octopus 6000 which I think is too small for tank
4 external pump 2 for return 2 for closed loop
8 metal halide guy told me its 400 watts each think going to change out to orphek cannon 120 watts
Think this will take me 2 maybe 3 yrs to finish cause money isn't unlimited
Any ideas or anything of what to so and what I'm getting myself into let me know

Ditch the fake coral insert as they look horrible. Also if this is your first tank I honestly would garage it and setup something at the 100 gallon range so you can start the learning process. Once you feel comfortable...then start to contemplate the big tank. Just think a 5% water change ( should be done weekly ) would be 75 gallons of RODI water plus $30 worth of salt. Every week

^---- those 400w are really good for corals though, but a tank that size should really go LEDS. Since money isn't unlimited you would want to save as much as possible. You're gonna need a lot of extra flow too. Get ready for a long list of needed equipment. It will be amazing when completed!

I've been reading about the jebao. Lots of people have good things to say about.
Thinking about getting them for tank since its so cheap I can do 8 WP60 for lower cost then 2 MP60

And I know I am going to have a long list of equipment to get. Not to mention need an electrician to add more break and maybe sub panel for tank. Need a contract to see if wall is load bearing so I can break part of it down to make tank in wall. Where tank is going is actually the down stair 5th bedroom

you will need a contractor also to deal with the humidity otherwise you are going to have a lot of issue with rot/mold/etc

i would pass on the cannon.

Why pass on cannon? What else can penetrate to bottom?

Wow not messing around with a smaller first tank go big or go home I guess. Congrats

I got tank for a real good deal. At least I think it's a real good deal I would never get chance to own tank this big if I didn't find this one at this price

All I have is a pic from original owner until I pick it up coming Wednesday. Actually coming Wednesday I'm draining tank and movers going in to help me move it Monday

Pacific Sun has an interesting lamp that just might work for this tank.

It is called the Ariel Combo, it is a LED/T5 Combo lamp. I would inquire with them, it says it is designed for 80" x 50" x 50" of coverage. About 1,200 watts.

Thanks I will look into it but if that is the case think will need 2 that is 2400 watts than can just save the money and stay with the lighting system that is already come with tank

My 375g DT and 125g sump costs around $400 a month in the winter months. Be ready for > $1,500 electricity a month. You must make a lot of money :)

Whoa that's gonna be one expensive build.. Making it full reef will be an undertaking and expensive.. But if your diligent it will work.. And imo with a tank that large I don't feel you would need to do that large of a water change as mentioned earlier. There is another company that makes wave makers for large tanks also I think it's an Italian company.. If your going jebaos I would have a few extra on hand just in case.. For lights I would use some of the mh and spotlight with a few of the led cannons or Kessil's. I wouldn't go full led myself it would be expensive

Good luck and like the others said post some pics lol.. Hope this is going on slab? If not I feel your gonna have to have an engineer layout the supports and a contractor do the work... This whole build is straight expensive on all sides.. Good luck.. Look up dcandersons 1200g system on rc In large reef tanks. He has an awesome tank and thread and will help you along the way with his experience..
