150G Build By PMG

So - Is your wife happy with your chosen hobby?? Had she figured out how many carats she could've been wearing instead? { lol } Tell her its home improvement!

btw- Gorgeous tank. You really have a gift in capentry

Today I took the Kalk reactor off-Line, and started to utilize a team of dosing pumps to administer two-part in hopes of gaining a more stable system.

I'll have to keep a close eye on the parameters this week to try and get the dosing amounts dialed in.

and just when all that equipment gets expensive, here comes the fish and coral looks great awesome job, im quite jealous

ok so i didnt read the whole thread dont shoot me, but were u using a kalk reactor only or KALK AND CALCIUM REACToR combined?

Damn that is a sweet setup, it's so clean and filling in nicely. The stand and canopy are amazing! Enjoy a more stable tank with the dosers, once you get them dialed in you will be set.

Excellent build thread! Looks like great planning and even better execution of those plans! Thanks for sharing.

I had both a Kalk and Cal reactor hooked to the system, but I was only running the Kalk reactor as it was able to keep up with the Alk/Cal depletion. With the tank getting closer everyday to requiring the use of a calcium reactor, I've made the decision to go with two-part Vs. the reactor because of my fear of Low PH caused by excess CO2. My tank already suffers from a low, but stable PH due to the fact that it is in an unventilated basement. I didn't want to take the chance of losing my tank because of a sudden drop in PH .

Thanks Guys!

Not Exactly. lol

Heck No! She'd probably kill me.

Tell her its home improvement!
That only opens up another can of worms.
There's a long list of other home improvements that should be way ahead of the fish stuff.

Thank You.

UPDATE; Two Part & Dosing Pumps

UPDATE; Two Part & Dosing Pumps

With four weeks passing since I implemented the use of Two Part Solution and dosing pumps on my system, all I can say is I wish I would have done this from the beginning.

I'm not in any way saying that Two Part Solution is better than any other method of maintaining reef parameters, but with my past situation dealing with excess CO2 in the basement resulting in low PH, the Two Part system has improved all aspects of my tank.

In the past my average PH was 7.80 with swings as low as 7.53 under certain conditions. Although, a SPS tank can survive and grow at 7.80, I believe after a little research that the calcification process is greatly reduced within the stony corals at this level. With the use of my dosing pumps ,and ACIII programming, I've been able to maintain a PH value of 8.10 with a swing of +/- .05, and have been able to keep my Alk, Cal, and Mag levels dead stable. With the combination of stable parameters, and an acceptable PH level I've noticed substantial growth, and a great improvement in coloration just over the last month. Even a few of my corals that had begun to lose their tips as if they were melting away, have started to rebound and grow new tissue.

This was, and probably will be for awhile the best change I've made to my tank yet.

Also, I received a new IceCap Lunarlite LED today from Salty Critter. If you haven't seen one of these yet, they're everything the sales ad says they are. The colors that these LED's bring out in your corals are truly amazing. I was shocked when I turned them on myself. I'll now be running this light in combination with my white moonlights in the twilight hours.

Two part + dosers FTW! Glad things are going well for you. I was planning on using two of those Icecap LED's in my canopy for my tank upgrade but was waiting for some reviews, seems like you like them. Is the one fixture enough to light up your whole tank? Any chance for some pics?

I didn't know how many of the lights i was going to need either, but at the cost of $90 for a 48" light, I just got one to see if I liked them first before getting an additional one. Turns out that one light is plenty since I'm using them for basically moonlights. Keep in mind my tank surface area is 60" x 24".

Pictures are gonna be a little harder than I thought to take. I'm not the best photographer by any means. I tied to take some earlier, and they turned out horrible. I need to set up a tripod to hold the camera steady for these low light shots as they turn out all blurry. I think it's going to be hard to represent the true colors with my skills too, but I'll keep trying.

You're more than welcome to stop by anytime, and take a look for yourself.
