So disaster struck last night. I woke up to about 25 gallons of water on the floor and checked my sump there is a huge crack atleast 24" long on the backside behind the skimmer! I'm really bummed well here goes another 100$ . Or does anybody think its possible to use silicone to fill the crack only about 40% of the crack is below water level?

I'm gonna pull the sump tomorrow , I will put up some photos then. I just put a fishing bait bubbler in my display to keep the oxygen levels up. When I put in the baffles I made sure they were a snug fit but they didn't bow the glass or anything of the sort. When I put it in I was careful, didnt bang it around or drop it in. Dunno how it could of happened? I'm guessing it was due to the pressure that's the only thing I could think of to do it. As its been fine for almost two weeks then all of a sudden wham. Thanks for the advice Jon I knew it was the right move just lookin for the cheap rhoute. Will give more info 2morow.

Just curious if you reinforced your floor to support the the weight of the 180. It looks like you are upstairs. Is there a basement below. I am in the process of doing a 180 but I would like to put it upstairs but am causious about doing so.. I get mixed reviews on this and just curious on your take.

I did reinforce the floor. My home is older and has old wood floors so I though it was necessary and it helped level everything out. I ran 2x10's in between the floor joists in an offset pattern. The tank rests off the main center beam and I placed a floor jack I purchased at lowes for around 80$ I think. I also used this to help level the tank when in place. Works well for me so far, hope that helps.

I hope they weren't. But oh we'll there is gonna be ups and downs in the hobby if it wasn't challenging I don't think we would enjoy it as much
but I do not have a petco in the area my gf works at the local jacks aquarium part time but its only 10% discount. Been searching the threads for a used sump but haven't found nething yet. Joe

This is the damage. It starts at the base of the baffle. ( musta been too tight.) I put my old sump in and am gonna make the new one next weekend, was just too bummed out and lacked the motivation, Same concept but switch skimmer section with fuge section so I have room to hard plumb my drain, and. Increase my water line I consulted reef octopus and they said the recommended line on the skimmer it's self is the recommended water line for the area it's in not the waterline inside the skimmer. Learn somethin new everyday I guess.

Nano, bad deal with the sump. I just bought a 40B from Petco today that I plan to use as my sump. Thanks to your thread I will be extra careful.

Sorry the sump cracked on you. At least you had a backup. You need quick thinking in this hobby when disasters happen.

There will be ups and downs in the hobby if it wasn't challenging I don't think we would enjoy it as much. Glad my failures could help you out tho! Good luck with your build, do you have a thread?

The rebuild will be fun again haha so I'm not too depressed. Good way to fix a few things I didn't care for, And a good excuse to have some friends come over for pizza and beer while we fix it and talk about baseball!
