180 gallon peninsula build. (progress may be slow)

Joe, what is ur overflow box made of? Did u build it or buy it from somewhere?

It's a manufactured tank by clarity plus. But it's made of 1/4" black acrylic. You could buy a hob overflow they are pretty cheap and do the same job and they take up much less space inside the tank.

so whats going on with the tank and news?

Nothin new really redid my entire aquascape I like it a lot better now. Ill try and post pics this weekend. I've just been workin twelve hour days and had a few car repair bills set me back financially and my wife's still waitin on her couch. I'm workin on it tho I'm still on the forum everyday :)

Updates in a few days gonna post lots of pics. Was planning to rebuild my sump this weekend but it my wife's birthday and we got some reds games to go to! Gonna be great to get away from work for a while!! First days off in almost 50 days!

Hope wifey has a great birthday. Good birthday equals more time for you to finish tank build.

Yes happy wife happy life :) and I'm ready to get this sump done so I can start workin on my canopy then get the rest of the fish I want and fill with corals! How's that injury comin along?

Going in the hospital for the EKG and stress test. I will know when surgery will be. Knee is the same as long as I don't walk lot or do excessive tank maintenance. Thanks for asking.

No problem man hope ya get better were all awaiting updates with your system keep us posted!

The tank is decent but nowhere near what I would like havent been on the forum much currently working two jobs. I lost my nem last month he decided to walk around and I'm guessing got detached and was blowing around and got sucked into an mp40 so a huge nitrate spike happened. I had my nitrates under 20ppm and the morning after the nem they tested off the charts, they are back under 80ppm now. Doing 30gal water changes every two weeks.

I had a huge aptasia outbreak last month as well one turned into hundreds in about two weeks they multiply insanely fast! I pulled all my display rock and scraped off as much of them as I could with a screwdriver and have been dosing aptasia x every few days, seems to be killing them so far.

Last night I come home and one of my mp40's was solid red and wouldn't do anything I tried resetting the way vortech says in a tutorial video but that didnt work, out of frustration I tapped it on my palm and it turned back on? Hasn't stopped again yet. Has anybody else had this problem?

That's where the tank stands as of now just kinda lacking the drive due to mu current schedule will try and post pics when I can.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like you've been kept busy with the tank! Sorry about the Nem, I've never had great luck with them.

Have you thought about peppermint shrimp fm for the aptasia? I had a huge outbreak, tons of small ones and a number of much larger in my 180. I employed 3 peppermint shrimp, I would never see them except for at night. Slowly over the course of a month or do ALL small aptasia have gone, I just have one or two of the large ones left. I had read that they can be hit or miss with aptasia, they did wonders for me. 3 for $18 at my LFS

Long overdue update!

Long overdue update!

Haven't been on the forum in a while so i decided to put up a small update of how the system is doing as of now.

The tank is doing great, good polyp extension and everything is thriving.

-new sump/refugium

- new additions
current stock list
-------------------
- five green chromis
- yellow tang
- green mandarin
- green bird wrasse
- pink spot goby
- copperbanded butterfly
- clarkii clown
- tomato clown

have a new addition in quarantine who is eating well and will move to the display either friday or saturday.

- new flow
- currently have my mp40's synced on wave mode and running night time mode which my butterfly enjoys he seems to favor hunting at night.

Currently awaiting my shipment from reef cleaners to arrive will post pics of the new cleanup crew and some tank and filtration shots later in the day!

video update!

video update!

http://youtu.be/mJ0_-eS8EmY

small video update i did just before lights out so a lot of coral is closed up and the anemone had just been placed in the tank 15 min prior.

sorry it was filmed with a potato my iphone camera is cracked so i had to use the front face camera and that is pretty challenging i might add.

general update of the system
---------------------------------

- aquascape has been completely redone still want to add another arch on the right side.(where the video starts.)

- sump has been completely redone once again and no cracking this time i made sure of that! trimmed the baffles slightly narrower and used a lot more silicone it has been holding well for over 2 months now.

- updated fish list:
2x moorish idols
1x yellow tang
1x copperbanded butterfly
1x male bird wrasse
1x clarkii clown
1x cinnamon clown
1x green mandarin(female i think)
1x pink spot goby
5x blue/green chromes

1 is around 4" and one is about 2and a half inches.
i did a 4 week quarantine on the idols before introducing them to the display they ate like pigs then and they eat like pigs in my display literally eating whatever i feed. (mysis/brine/nls/nori/flakes) they munch. when i got them they had no streamers and its been a week in the display and the larger one is pushing a 1" streamer now the smaller one has just started to develop his maybe half an inch. they are best buds always together no aggression towards each other either.

more updates to come hopefully this weekend if work allows it!

thanks for viewing.

What is that "whooping" sound in the background of the video? I hope it isn't tank related.
