Nice Job TBone I'm looking to set up big tank behind sofa 140 gal starfire. So I've learned a lot by tagging along. One question who made your sump? I like the design where the flow from the refugium is slower. One more, Any thing you would do differently? Pumps, skimmer, sump, lighting, plumbing, etc.
Thanks Fitz aka HunkaFish
Thanks, Fitz. My last tank (a 240g) was a peninsula-style, and it was set up as a room divider between our family room and office. It, too, sat directly behind our sofa. I loved that location, especially the see-through aspect of the peninsula. Of course, that also gave me an excuse to buy more coral, cuz I needed to scape 3 sides!
My sump was made by www.kritterproducts.com. I've know, Gen, the owner for quite some time now. He makes custom tanks, etc. He does great work. My design was an adapation of one of Marc's (Melev) designs. www.melevsreef.com. He's got a great website. Check it out!
Would I do anything differently? Wow, I think most people would do something differently. Here's what I would have done:
1) smaller sump - I made mine 4' long to fit under a 6' stand. I'm low on real estate for other equipment
2) Make my fuge bigger - need to harvest chaeto too often
3) Use a separate 10g tank as my top-off reservoir
4) Skimmer - I've only used Euroreefs my entire reefing life, and i like what they do for the money. If I would be willing to spend the money, I'd like to try a BubbleKing
5) Lighting - I used halides on my last tank. T5's this time (mainly for electricity savings). While I like the color that the T5's give, I REALLY miss the more natural look that halides give. I DON'T miss burning my arms everytime I service my tank, though.
