How much Elos AA's do you dose Mark? I didn't know you used them. Are you using them now on your 180g?

zeovit and fauna marin and elos purist all do the same thing the zeolite rocks are home to denitrifying bacteria and also are involved in some sort of Ion exchange with ammonia they absorb the ammonia. each system has a bacteria source that is dosed along with a bacteria food Bacteria foods are carbon sources like vodka and they feed the bacteria and bind organics allowing them to be exported by the skimmer.

also with zeo you create bacterial slime on the rocks that is shaken off daily into the water column to feed the corals and help the skimmer remove the organics

AA acids really have nothing to do with zeo except that with low nutrient systems there is a need to control the amount of nitrate in the water the AA also feed bacteria which in turn feed corals.

You sound like a scientist :D

I like the explanation Nick ;)

kar93, you can always go to zeovit.com to learn more from the "experts"

AA users - how long do you have to dose it before you start seeing noticeable effects?

AA only work and work well with SPS coral. If your tank is full of softies and fish, don't waste your money :D

When I am using them, I use one squirter daily when the lights go out.

I am not currently using them. It has been 4 weeks. My next scheduled bottle is in mid-June. I used it for the first three weeks when I was setting up the tank.

The difference about the elos vs the others is that the elos actually smells like the aa's I used to take when playing soccer. I am a smell guy, just like you can smell a dying acro :)

:D I love it when I hear people who know what they are talking about. I have mine between 10-20 and my colors are decent ;)
I always though it was the waste that kept them going not what the waste turns into. Clearly i have some rethinking to do :D

Nope, when the elos came out, I was all over the threads. I still feel that I get better colors when I am feeding "special recipe" twice a day

lil bit of both is my guess.

depends on the Coral in question, some SPS are able to grab waste in it pure form some dont seem to be able to grab organics and are more of absorbers than catchers.

the Mulm or bacterioplankton (sp?) that the Zeovit rocks produce can directly feed many corals just like fish waste.

check out the non photosynthetic forum zeo mulm is changing the way NPS corals are kept.

Why aren't you using them now?

Because I can still get what I want through food. I think it is just another variable that is fun to play with. I am not a "on the edge" reefer.

If you read the threads, people swear it happens over a weekend  "I left town for a weekend and when I got home I had amazing GROWTH and Color". These people are sniffing too many aa's.

IME, I saw some reaction to my PE. That is why I did it right when the lights went out. I thought it MAY help in the nightly feeding.

KZ also has an AA formulation for LPS that I have used. No joke, shortly after the solution hit the water, my LPS polyps extended like crazy. It was as if I had just fed the tank with food. I backed off and haven't used it in a while because I had a small algae bloom and didn't know which ZEO product caused it, so I'm now adding each product slowly and individually, and eventually I'm sure I'll go back to using the AA-LPS, as I was very impressed with it.

agreed, my AA dosing is on hold at the moment, i need some SPS.

i think zeofood7 has some AA in them and i still dose that

Mike i think you just sold me on a new additive i want to try the LPS AA out.

That is a pretty bold statement. I have over 20 chalices and 30 different variations of zos/palys and I have seen difference when I was dosing. I am probably the exception to the rule :p

i cant imagine the LPS are not positively affected, they need food too. :)

I always dose the supplement during the light off period. That is when your corals reach out for food and the longest PE. I also notice the algae bloom if you OD on AA.

cyano seems to only grow during lights on, dosing at night would allow 8 hours or so before the AA have a chance to fuel cyano.
