Mark - 2 questions for you:

1) What is your "special recipe" made of?
2) When I asked how long it took to notice an effect, what I meant was how long did it take before you noticed better coloration in your coral?

My special recipe is made up of what I see and like at the grocery store and fish store. The three staples ar PE mysis, hikari enriched brine shrimp and cycopleeze. I also add some galic extract and selcon.

I really did not see any better colors in my colors using AA's. That only comes from good husbandry ;)

I used to feed my tank very heavy with Mysis, Rotifer, Cyclopee, Brine shrimp, Krill, Squid, formular 1 and 2 pellets, Artic pod, garlic, selcon, Zoe con all mix in the cup for couple hours. Once in a while i add some oyster egg :D

Cool. I've been wanting to make my own fish food for a while now, but just too damn lazy to do so. I do feed PE mysis, hikari enriched brine and/or hikari spirulina brine, and cyclopeeze already. I just do it separately. And i do soak in garlic, selcon, and Zoe. Hmmm. Looks like I'm just missing the fresh seafood part of it.

Regarding AA, if not seeing better colors, why are you dosing? Just to get better PE? Which in turn means they eat more?

I tried making my own a while back, I got the recipe of Melevs Reef. The fish went mad for it, Im not sure about the corals because i only had a couple of zoas and a toadstool at the time but the fish seemed to love it.

I just ordered 2 bottles of the salifart AA from MD got a killer deal on them.

I have used the Brightwell before i didnt notice any diffrence

Thats why I am not right now ;) It is just something I consider a "ghost variable" because they are too any variations in my tank to consider anything a "miracle in a bottle". I was getting good colors before and I am still getting good colors.

Cubes are so cool :D

Yeah, i love the cube. Just the glass is too darn heavy to move across country...

Good to know, Mark. I appreciate honest answers. As you know, I want to keep my husbandry as simple as possible. I prefer not to dose anything if I don't have to.

I'll sit back for now, and see how Sang's coral respond.

I like that statement. :D

I honestly believe amino acids have the potential to improve coral health under the conditions that everything else is in line.

i highly advise against using human supplements in a tank

i read about an guy who was putting vanilla flavored AA powder from GNC in his tank that has to be a bad idea.

I wouldn't recommend it. Many of these companies use fillers in their products. The purity of those amino acids and the reaction a tank may have are highly variable.

I guess my ideas of following the italians and putting hgh in my tank was a bad idea :(

Yeah, but even with the stuff made by Zeo & Prodibio, Do we really know if it's pure AA?

I'm just gonna stick to the HGH then... ;)

nope but there is at least the intention of using the right AA

not all AA work for corals there have been studies as to which specific amino acids corals can use and those are the ones KZ and ELOS use.
