Nick - At work, so of course I can't view that link. I'll check it out when I get home.

:D :D :D At work??? but still on RC :p

Thanks, Jim.

I'm starting to think that a lot of my coral trouble is due to the heat (and less to the AEFW). I'm not running a chiller (fans only), and have temp swings between 78-82.

Yeah, thats about what I experienced last year when the heat went up.

Now my chillers set, it stays 80-81. Before I upped it, it was 79-80. If you can, spring for a chiller :) I do not regret my purchase!

I think I really need a chiller, but I have a BIG problem. I have absolutely NO room for a chiller! If I get one, I'd have to put it on the ground in front of the tank, which means it's sitting out in the kitchen with stand doors open - I don't think my wife will take to that!

So what are my options? I currently run fans over my sump. Should I add more fans over the tank?

Absolutely. Also, open the canopy and cabinet doors when it's toasty out. That'll really help keep everything well ventilated. You could also turn the house AC (if you have one, as it's not critical in the bay area) down a couple of degrees.

I am glad that you got one too. Its so much less stress.

Thanks for the great advice buddy :)

Terry is there a wall around the tank that you could place the chiller on the other side of, and run the plumbing/coil through a hole?

I've been leaving the cabinet doors open when it's hot. I'll open up the canopy doors, too.

Today, it must have been close to 100degrees outside, but only 79 in the house. The tank was still at 82 :(. I turned the A/C on to 75.

Jim - No. the dining room is on the other side of the tank, so all my equipment has to go under the stand.

T, opening the canopy will help alot, BUT, you've got loads of room for a chiller! Following the now several links back through your multiple splits:D , I finally found the pic of the setup. You want a chiller, just look up. Above the cabinetry that is. Just tuck it up against the wall on the right above the tank. You can even diguise it a bit to keep it from standing out. You will hear it more, but only when it needs to run to keep the tank cool.

T,

the bluespot here is $99.99.

I love having a chiller this is the 1st summer i have had one. But i hate hearing it on all the time last 2 days i have been freezing old milk jugs and gatorade bottles and sticking them in my sump. chiller has not come on that much last 2 days

Days like these make me nervous. I've got everything in the garage! Mighty toasty in there, but the chiller is keeping up nicely. I think I'm gonna throw the other chiller that's for the QT system on as well, just in case.:D

yeah my sump and chiller are in the garage as well. It is definitetly hot in my garage

Looks like Bluezoo has a small bariene in stock, its on sale as well

I did a check on the RC calc, and ran my chiller numbers. Maybe I did something wrong....

.25 hp (1/4 hp) at $.17 per KwH (smud tier 3) @ 12 hours a day only runs $6.00 and some change per month.

Did I miss something?

Assuming it's running nonstop for 12 hours a day, which it won't, .25hp=186w @ .17/1000 x 30days=$11.30.

Thats what I thought!!

Actually, I checked for 6 hours, thats why my numbers were off. But still!!!

Not too bad!! I was thinking it was going to cost like $20-$30 a month!!!

I'd say mines on at a "generous" rating of 8 hrs per day.

It wouldn't surprise me if it got to 12 hrs in July/August though

Jeremy - nice catch. I forgot about the top of my cabinets. I would have to come up with something clever to disguise it though.

Davey - that's a great price on the bluespot jaw. I paid $130 for mine.
