180G Waterfall Tank Build

Here are a few picture of me using Dryloc on the inside of the stand so I wount ruin the wood. First I used silcone in the corners then used the Dryloc then repainted it with black semi gloss. Now I dont have to worry about spilling water!

it only goes to the websight so click the link then on the side click sfiligoi on the side and go all the way to the bottom to see the pendent its 2x400w mh in a single reflector

Wow those are nice, execpt the price. I was planning to run 2x400W on the top and 2X250w on the bottom as thats what I currently run on my 90. But I have been told that switching to the L3 reflector will make it so I only need to run one 400 over each tank. Do you think that will be enough light? Its pretty shallow...

The sump that came with it was for fresh water so the guts were cut out and new baffles installed. It measures 39x16x16. I also had a hole drilled into the side for the skimmer return. The skimmer is a MRC 2 that will be run externally.

With L3's you will be fine... I think if you wanted you could do a 400w over your top (SPS) tank and a 250w over your bottom (Zoa) tank... I am only running 4x 250w (with some T5's) over my 96x48x30 and I plan on keeping some SPS in the top half of the tank...

^ I would prefer to go 400 on top and 250 on bottom to save $ but I was worried that I could not get the colors to match on the bulbs and it may look weird with a slight color differance from the top to the bottom

very nice man Not only do I look forward ti seeing the progress but I look forward to helping. It is nice living close to fellow reefers.

Here the sump is done and in place, along with the skimmer and I'm leak checking it with fresh water.

I always wondered what one of these tanks would look like setup as a reef.Guess were all going to get a chance to see one setup as a reef now.

I also agree with tangman1218,about having the rock work come up to the overflows off the first tank. That would look cool imo.

Very cool, I love these tanks when I see them at the store. I would try to add some lockline or black pvc to the waterfall outlets to decrease the splash. Take em down to the water line.

I've seen a similar setup with a terrarium setup on the top, flowing down into a FW planted tank on the bottom. I thought that was a really cool setup, but never thought about the possibility of using a similar config for a reef. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

If this work it could be one of the coolest reef tanks ever. How difficult to get or expensive are these type of systems?

i would think you could build on with ease.. you dont necessarily need that shape but you could even get glass for not that much.. all you really need it two tanks you could do anything..

i bet we will see a couple of these come up in the future, this is a really cool idea.
