Good news. I finally waited out the tomini and seen him eat. Looks like he was eating nori scraps and possibly some cyclops eeze. So I'm relieved about that, also his activity has increased but is still skiddish

Great to hear it! :) sounds like he's following pretty normal behavior for a new bristletooth. Are you going to medicate once you're happy with their activity/appetite?

Just updating. The potters chows on hakari mysis and Cyclops . So far the tomini is chowing on nori but only when I'm not around. I just spied on him chowing a good sized sheet. What I'm wondering is the nori good to hold him over until I get him chowing other item? What else can I offer him? I might order s me lrf soon

Nori is going to be the staple part of the tomini's diet, and you can supplement him with meaty foods. Bristletooth tangs have evolved to graze and as such, veggies are going to be his main source of nutrition. It's still important to mix up types/colors of seaweed and offer plenty of high protein (meaty) foods as well.

Thanks for the reply. So the tang is chowing nori when im not around and the potters is a pig. Should i get the tomini eating other items before starting copper? Also this will be my first time treating in a QT with copper and prazi so im a bit nervous. Isn't there a sticky on treating with copper?

Thanks rea17 for that link you sent me. Im thinking i might actually just observe the fish for a few weeks then to prazi then into the DT. I know after months and months of reading that there are soooo many different opinions on the use of a qt tank and the treatment of medications as a precaution. For me i would rather not use copper unless i see any ich etc... And to be honest up until these 2 fish i didnt ever use a QT tank so if i treat them there is always a chance ich was carried with another fish in the past? For example i obtained my BT trigger from the same source as the potters and tang and didnt qt it so if that stores system or my trigger had ich that i couldnt see chances are my dt has it. Now now of my fish show signs of it and everything looks happy and healthy. If i ever had an out break im ok holding and treating the fish at that point and doing a tank fallow as much as that would suck to see the tank just sit there with no fish :(

I think it boils down to what level of 'assurance' you are willing to tolerate. I QT all fish, but I only treat if I think there is a problem. If you want to get really close to 100% then I do think prophylactic treatment and at least 12 weeks in QT is required. Willing to live with, say, 90%, then treat as symptoms occur (percentages are illustrative).

No matter ones opinions on fish health, nutrition, etc., (and those things DO help with disease resistance) bypassing QT will almost always land you with a nasty disease breakout - some people are lucky, and never have it happen, others have it happen in the first week of their reef tank.

I'm one of the ones that believes in preventative treatment. If you dodged a bullet in the past with the blue jaw, you may not with the tomini. The fish could have gotten ich in transit, not at the LFS, but there's no way to know about the trigger carrying it. I say go through the original quarantine plan, treat, if you have an outbreak you can go fallow. At least that way you can say you did everything you could.

Going to try and snag some new pics after work. Both my guys are doing good. Both eat and the tomini still is a shy little bugger. I put a maybe 6" x 1" strip of nori in each day before work and he decimates it by the time I'm back. Aside from that I'm still just watching they're behavior and feeding deciding if I want to treat or not. I did notice a small scuff or something on the side of the potters so I'll try and capture what I'm seeing in a photo for you guys to look at. It this area doesn't heal or go away soon then I will almost certainly be starting copper soon

So I'm trying hard to get a pic of what I see on the left side of my little potters. But he is too active Lol. I know if I keep trying I'll capture it. But its right behind his fin where the black bars are. And it honestly just looks like a lesion of some sorts or a scratch? What are some external diseases that I can look into that are common ? Maybe I can find a picture of a similar case on another fish

Thanks I took about 100 pics and none captured it .. Most pics of uronema have lots of redness etc.. This just looks like a natural wound I'm hoping. Plus if it was a disease chances are it would have started to effect the tang no? Both are fat and eating so I'm not worried but I want to be certain its not disease. Gonna keep working on pics

Here is the best out of 150 pics lol...

Not the best but again he wont stop moving, little bugger. They seem to get along but its possible he got clipped because the fin on that side also looks like it got nipped and i dont recall him having any nipped fins except the one when i bought him and thats healed?

I know its hard to tell but its kind of white in color and doesn't look red or even new it almost looks like scare tissue ?
