2012 Bow Season starts 10/1!?!

Slick trick Magnums. I'm done with mechanicals after shouldering that huge 8 last year. My fault, but a fixed blade might have helped. I will say this, they DESTROY when they are in the right spot.

Was it hard tuning your fixed blades to fly true?

I have always used grim reapers since day 1. One year i wanted to try the rage along with the anchor sight... I hit a little high in the shoulder. Didn't find blood until 30 yards away then 45 yards from there. Walked a "half moon" formation for hours.. couldn't find it anywhere.

Not finding your deer is the worst feeling to have.

not finding your deer definitely stinks. I've been there. The very first time I went bowhunting, I shot a decent 6 point. I trailed it for 1/4 mile, uphill, downhill, through ravines, and could never find him. I was using a mechanical. I have a feeling that it didn't open correctly, but I'm not sure. I never found the arrow, or the deer.

After that, I switched over/back to fixed blades. I took a doe with NAP Thunderheads the first full year using them. (Note that I like pretty much all NAP products. I use QuickSpin vanes and a QuickTune drop away rest.) They're a good cut on contact fixed blade that always flew well for me. They did tend to be a little loud when flying though. They basically can only be used for one shot. Every time I shot one, they would hit the deer (or miss) and go into the ground, bending the blades/tip.

Tuning them was easy. If your arrow flies straight coming off the string and it is stiff enough, you shouldn't have a problem. You'll get planing (and inaccuracy) when the arrow doesn't come off the string perfectly straight. If you had your bow tuned at a shop, you shouldn't have a problem. If you put it together yourself and didn't do things like shooting through paper at 3, 5, 10 yards, you may have problems.

I couldn't find Thunderheads at a local store. So, I switched to Rage 2 blade this year after missing a doe (arrow hit a branch and landed 3 feet in front of her) with my last Thunderhead. The Rage do fly well out of my bow.

Later on I found out I was the victim of Rage's 3 blade malfunction. They finally admitted the 3 blade had problems opening up after a few months of same complaints. They sent me the new "modified" ones but i never used them.

I have a lot of friends that use the 2 blade consistently with success. They make a HUGE hole. The grim reapers have never let me down yet!

I do my own tuning and maintenance... My local shop is usually too busy and they make simple mistakes. It made me learn to do everything myself with a little help from AT.

It is very simple to broad head tine your bow. It's a great idea to spin your arrows to be sure the heads spin true. It takes some tinkering but you can broadhead tune in under 30 minutes IF your bow is in tune. Mechs should fly just as well as fixed blades. Slick tricks and thunderheads fly great for me.

Trying to understand all of you're "shop talk" is like listening to the "Jive Dudes" from Airplane. Hey home', I can dig it. Know ain't gonna lay no mo' big rap up on you, man!

This is a part of hunting that is completely foreign to me. It's a shame, we have a 9 yr old choc lab and I've never attempted duck hunting or any other bird hunting, (less turkey), but I'd like to try sometime.

Good stuff Block.

Ha!

We have a Basset with a lift kit that strikes that pose often. The only scent she tracks is the bee-line to the litter box as she plays the roll of "Trophy Turd Burglar." ;)
