lol....well they [clams] are far from dead....and i just did some reading that says that its not anything to worry about since its not eating the mantel.

So which is it?

Not trying to be a jerk, just wondering because you've got me confused!

none of the clams in the pics are dead.... i had a 4"deresa and a blue 2" maxima die from the meds.... thank you for the question

good morning

lmao... i just read this whole thread, i must say i have heard of stubborn but this is at all new heights... Elegance, why ask for help from people when you wont accept it... Patience is a must, and can be seen on thread after thread of new setups going bad. You have put a good amount of money in this setup yet neglected the numer 1 rule of patience. I would deffinatly slow it down trash the bio balls that will only build up nitrates and listen to what other expirianced people have to say.

maybe you should look a little closer.....has anyone with more experience that what i have actually given me any advice.....or even attempted to answer any questions i have posted. NO! I just get people with little or not experience that have always thought that it takes a long time to have a nice saltwater reef. Well every situation is different and I have enough experience to see that everything was going great until the ich. Which was from my own admition my fault ....so how is that stubborn? Most of the people who post telling me to slow down is because they cant think of any real advice to give and if you look at what they have...maybe a bit jealous? Not saying that there is anything to be jealous of....but i see it all the time someone puts a ton of money into there tank and people with tanks half the size start in on them.....and if they see a coral or fish die....omg...here it comes....and in reality they have probably killed so many animals they could have bought a huge tank....lol. If you have a lot of experience you would know that its not hard to go buy a brand new tank.....and within a day have a beatiful established tank. It would just cost you more money....and that ticks a lot of people who cant do that off.... get over it....do you key peoples nice cars too because you drive a beater!!!!

Another thing....i think a lot of people see the pictures and think i put this tank up in a day.....it was done over several months and i just waited to post the pics and thread...

I did all my tests on the tank last night and everything was right where it should be except calcium was a little low from the last test. its at 380 and i think my salt (reef crystals) is 420 if i remember right so there has been some consumption. I am going to buy some liquid calcium from my LFS to bring it back up a little.
calcuim 380
phos. 0
nitrates 0
alk. 12
Ph 8.2
temp. 79

Try Searching "New Tank Syndrome".

It takes most tanks a year to mature. It takes a long time for bacteria to fully colonize the system.

Knowledge is certainly correlated to experience, but certainly not causal. . ..

i would agree with that a 100%.... and i do beleive that full colonization is not always needed to have some of the things that people want in there tank....such as the tangs i added to mine....I do want to stress that I know I was pushing the envelope when i put three surgeonfish in this small of a tank...but that is the most fun for me....to try new things...push the limits and figure out ways to do things the hobby has never done... I really dont think i did anything wrong other than not quarantining all my fish.... and a was very careful the order i put them in so that they would have the best chance of getting along. which i do beleive worked well. Also i was very patient to allow my tank to cycle and have plenty of natural food for the tangs. i actually waited about a month to put them in and then it was gradual as I stated before.....so i really dont think i wasnt patient at all.
My point is that i know my tank has not reached it peak of colonization by far but is it still capeable of keeping the bio load i had healthy... i think so. I mean look at the old Fish Only tanks back in the day....they kept healthy fish with no live rock...or even a fraction of the filtration we have now!
