230 Ohio reef tank

Does anyone have any idea what the heck these things are? I had a power outage and was looking into the tank with my phone light and these came out into the light. It's really cool and check out what happens about 40 seconds into the video. It takes off like a rocket. Its Pretty awesome.

The heck is that!? You've got my interest... ten years in the hobby and I haven't a clue what that is! Gotta see if google has an answer...

Looks great, sorry to hear about your issues, hopefully you'll overcome it quickly. :)

...So I looked around and am amazed to find quite a few videos with the same thing you have.. and yet not one definitive answer to their ID.

Okay after more searching... I think they are "epitokes of eunicids" - So that rocket ship thing was one filled with eggs and it.. exploded with young.. in a sense. I think you were watching a hatching of sorts, and mating. As for "Are they bad?" - Apparently not really. Eunicids can be scary, when big, but these for the most part aren't.

Well finally crossed a new step in my life and will have a little more time to dedicate to the tank. Finally retired after 21 years. My father made this beautiful shadow box encompassing all of my career. This will be put up right next to the Aquarium.

We'll I finally defeated the Dino's. I gave up the hydrogen peroxide and went with a small dosage of kalkwasser. One red solo cup of the tank water and 2 tsp daily. Seemed to do the trick. Things are finally returning back to normal.

Here's a shot with the atinics on.

Can you please tell me what wall shelf system that is..it looks very sturdy and I like the offset from the wall for wires.
Good job on your tank.

Thanks Ricardo.

There standard PVC shelving pieces I got from Sears. You can usually find them in the hardware tool section. Home Depot and Lowes also carries there own brand as well. before I put them up, I used 2x4's that I shot vertically into the concrete walls with a nail gun. The 2x4's helped provide the space behind the shelving for my cords.

Was playing with YouTube today and made a short HD video. Hope you enjoy. Cant wait till some of these Frags grow to full size.

Wahoo, looking forward to the frag swap in Columbus Ohio this weekend. Hope to find some more staghorns to add. Will have to post some pictures if I find what I'm looking for on Sunday.

Ok, I am so frustrated. I am still fighting the battle with the attached photo. Some SPS seem to be immune (Bali slimmer, Ora frag). While it attacks new growth spots. I have been trying every trick in the book. (Lights out for 3 days. Raising PH, h202, water changes, replacing Ro/do filters. I hit these with a turkey blaster and comes back almost 20 minutes later. I think it's diano but can't be sure. It leaves dusty residue that blows off easily with a baster. I want to figure out my source and always open to suggestions. Any takers?

If possible, set up a separate treatment tank and get all the affected corals out of your display tank asap. Treat the suffering corals in the TT, not your DT. Don't wait for the illness to spread.

As Newbie said, try the various medicated coral dips. It looks like a viral infection. Check your display tank parameters. Are you getting too hot/cold or too extreme a swing from one to the other during one day? Are you feeding your corals at all? - why not/with what?

Thanks Dave/Newbie,
What Im having issues with is this odd Diano bloom which is attaching itself to my SPS and rocks. (Almost like a dark brown powder type algae but will grow in a long string form if I leave it alone. Will cover any Coraline on the back wall as well. I have been using a turkey baster and blasting it off the corals and rocks daily. Just cant seem to shake it. I've tried raising my PH in the tank to almost 8.7 which seems to help a little but It quickly comes back. I also tried small doses of H202 and it didnt seem to work and also did lights out for 3 days. Nothing seems to work so far. Im just praying that it will hopefully ride itself out. This stuff is ugly if I dont keep blasting it off atleast 2-3 times a day.

Temp is pretty stable with the Chiller and heater plugged in via Neptune controller. Steady at 78-78.5
