230 Ohio reef tank

Decided to give up the dosing method and resorted back to the Calcium reactor. Everything seems much better since I made the switch and parameters seem a little more stable. (Colors etc.)

I use to have a droid and I loved it. I'm all apple now and prolly will never go back.

I'm with newbie on this one. Love my MacBook and my iPhone. Everything is lookin great love the organization can't wait to see it filled up! Another Ohio reefer following along!

Urghhh!!! Had to hook up the Chiller today. The Calcium reactor raised the temp almost 1.5 degrees. Noticed it was around 81-82. Way to hot for the SPS. Was hoping the basement would help keep the temp down. Hopefully when I make the switch to all LEDs I can sell my chiller.

Thanks Nanoohio. My contracts up for the droid. Will probably switch to the iPhone. However I do like the Google maps with the droid for the GPS.

That thing is huge! How's your BTA doin looks really small?

It's doing alright. It kinda shrunk a little when I had that temp spike. Should bounce back now that I got things back under control. Running a steady 78 degrees now. This chiller blows me away. It's a 16 year old chiller and still running strong.

It's amazing the quality of craftsmanship of some of this equipment, they don't make a lot of stuff like that anymore!

Everything's expensive but well worth it!

Joe.

Been a while since I posted an update. Getting close to my military retirement and will be looking forward to putting a little more time towards this tank. Unfortunately, just a few weeks ago I had lost my Rose Bubble when I was traveling and not quite sure why it died. Good thing was that I was able to get it out before it competely passed. However, everything else has been coloring up and growing nice, especially my Acros. I am planning to put a quite a few more schooling fish and some additional corals shortly, but its been pretty hard to find the right corals Im looking for in the local area. I will be headed back down to Tampa Florida shortly and will have to check out a few of my old LFS and hopefully I can find what I'm looking for. Leaving lots of room for growth but there is always room for more. :)

Just getting ready to start drilling the bottom of the tank to install a close loop system

Great build! I know I'm late to the party but be careful with this - there is a real chance of sewage backflowing into your tank waste lines if that valve is ever left open / leaks.

You may want to make a trap (think of a big, upside-down U higher than the waste stack), or install a second valve inline to this one for insurance.

Thanks, will keep it mind. The only time I use this is to pump out the water I had siphoned into a trash can. Hook up a hose to a barbed connector. its not directly connected to the tank. Definitely agree, would make for some bad juju. Wife wouldn't be be happy either. :)

Back from Tampa Florida. Was able to bring a few frags with me on board my flight

Traveler tip....Show your frag bags to the first TSA agent at the security area right away and ask for a floor supervisor. Tell them you are traveling with live corals and would prefer to take them on board as opposed to checking them in. (Be very nice) keep your receipt and show them that you purchased them. They will probably give an extra pat down and recheck your bags. Easy! Anyways can't guarantee it will work every time but it worked for me.

just wanted to share some photos of their new home (red digi, green monti cap, red encrusting monti, Ora sps)

Lol, a friend thought my pump room looked like a meth lab. Think I'm gonna need a bigger basement if I keep adding to the system.
Been one crazy week, I fortunately avoided a 3 1/2 hour power outage by building a power back up system. The electric company told me that the power was going down for maintenance. I frantically ran out and found an AC/DC power inverter that charges and detects when the power goes out and auto transfers to the deep cell marine battery. Saved me lots of headaches. Kept the main pump, calcium reactor and protein skimmer running and worked like a charm. Wish I would of set this up a long time ago.

what model is the inverter you found( or more info on it)? I have been thinking about this myself as I lose power frequently where I live. Beautiful tank.
