240 Gallon Cube Tank Photo Diary

The pics look good, but the depth is better in person. When will you be starting a 500 now that this is finished? Can't wait to see

Hey sorry to hijack your thread but I seen your work on bebo77's 300 and was really!!! blown away. I was wondering if I could hire you to build me stand and canopy for a 540 g 96x 36 x 36. please e-mail me back at cmulawka@gmail.com.

When I get done moving around the world that is the big tank I want when I retire (3 years). Thanks for the compliments you gave my tank, now it is my turn to compliment yours... Great looking tank!!!

Hi Gabriel,
Nothing new really. I did add a very nice blue Exquisite wrasse a few days ago. I lost one of my absolute favorite SPS frags which I'm bummed about. It was a very pretty pink clathrata table frag I gof from RM about 5 months ago. It had encrusted about 2" and was growing extremely well. One night it looked perfect. The next day I came home to find it 3/4 RTN'd. I fragged it, but the frag RTN's the next day. Very perplexing.
So far everything else is doing well.
I'm seriously considering a 6'x6'x30" tank soon ;) I may have 'permission' to turn out downstairs guest bedroom into my 'fishroom' which would be great. We'll see though.

With 6x6x30" you'd have to build a catwalk above the tank in order to maintain/service the tank and all that fun stuff. A catwalk on rails that moves would be cool.

I can't imagine your lighting setup, you would have to have 9 halides to light it up and get good coverage.

Oregon Reef is 6x8x30 and he doesn't have a catwalk. He does have it where his feet are at the same level as the bottom of the tank though.

Would the new cube be mounted in the wall or would it be free standing?

Heck, why not just build the cube AND the 8x4. No need in choosing one or the other. :p You don't want to hurt anyones feelings. :D

You could easily get away with 4 400w halides in LAIII's. You would have to have room for good viewing from all 4 sides. This means a room that is at least 14' long (6' tank and 4' space on each side). Tank would be expensive and hard to move.

You would have to remove walls to just get it in your house, unless you have 4'+ wide doorways, hallways and the room to maneuver that honker. Scott would have to just build it in place =)

I smell a serious buzz kill.

PS, stairs would be a complete show stopper unless you have a 9' ceiling all the way down, including doors.

Nice tank! DO you have any close up pictures of how you hide the 4 front returns? I can't find them in any of the pictures, so you did a good job hiding them! :)

This would be going in my home theatre/game room or the adjacent 15'x 15' bedroom, which is in the finished basement. The garage leads straight into the main game room which is 24' x 30' with 12' ceilings and its a straight shot into the guest bedroom as well, which also has a 12' ceiling.
All door ways are 36" wide and 7' tall so getting the tank in on a small dolly or scooters would be very easy.
I would save up and buy 3 72" Oceanlights or something similar so I have the same nice clean look I have over the current cube.
Fade2black- the bottom CL returns are hidden in the two rock pillars located at the front of the middle pane viewing. They are pretty well hidden. You can not see them unless you know exactly where to look. I don't think you can see them via any pic, so close up pics won't really show you anything. Thanks for the compliment too.

Here are a few bottom up pics I took the other night trying to get the 'reflection' from the still water surface. A few turned out fair. My pics never look as good as the tank does in real life though.
