240g Shark / Reef Build

putting rubber under the steel plates should help but if the rubber is too thin might just go through it and still crack the tile.

too bad your not close by, I'd give you whatever thickness/size metal plate you want. shoot, even SS lol. You could also go with like 3" x 6" depending on the look you want, but looking at that pic of the foot, I kinda cringed a lil bit thinking about the weight pushing on that single point...

1/4" is probably overkill, 3/16" maybe

good luck with the tank.

i would be a little bit worried about the shark, when full grown they are a nightmare. i had a full grown bamboo in my 210 and it was insane, he would toss pieces of live rock like it was a toy.
he never bothered any fish and was well fed. but one day he got it in his head to chase down and eat a few fish (yellow tang, kole tang, majestic angel, and niger trigger. then he decided to end his own life by jumping out

i would also worry about having halides on the tank. for 2 reasons. 1. sharks like more of a dim light enviroment, with this much light he will probably spend much of his time hiding.

2. when the shark gets going he WILL splash water out of the tank, so make sure you have those bulbs covered because they will get wet, and possibly explode.

i am not here to bash you, and i am in no way an expert.
but there are much better setups for a shark, but since you already own him, i will try to help as best i can

Being a tile guy (put down a lot of tile) I would spread the load as much as possible. Even though your tile is on cement the 6 point would probably crack the tile. Metal plates would probably work to spread the load over the tile but to really work out the leg would need to be in the center of the metal plate which would mean you would have some of the metal exposed past where your finished stand would be. I'm sure you will come up with something.

but it still could crack the tile through pressure that the plate dsitributes i supposed you could try a bit of old carpet scraps that you might have lying around but if it goes wrong when you have filled you will run into big problems and could take along time to fix
(and money incase you have have your floor re-done) or unless you remove the tiles and build a raised solid concrete base

No offense but a 210 for a bamboo is very small they need something around 500g when fully grown. My shark will grow to ~24" so it is almost half the size of yours in a larger tank than yours.

No worries my friend I have done much research before starting this project ;)

Oh, my MH lights have a protective glass shield so they cant get wet

Being in a small tank may have been the reason for his "insanity" im not saying you was doing it wrong or anything. I probably wouldn't even be able to keep a shark alive.

BTW, these sharls are found in coral reefs and no deeper than 30 ft, I believe there is plenty of light at that depth so I dont see an issue having bright lights

Ive heard that if water splashes on the glass shield of MH's the salt can burn.

the one on the pendant? !!! I hope I will be ok... :(

ivgonmad,

i Know my tank was too small, but i took him in from someone who had him in an even smaller home. and with the dimensions of your tank, 8x2x2 you will eventually be in the same situation i was in.
Just because a tank has 30 more gallons does not make it better dimension wise. an ideal setup for him would be a 8 wide 2 high 4 deep. with an adult length of 2 ft for your shark he will barely be able to turn around
Just my 2 cents though. Like i said i hope it works out great, sharks are wonderful animals to keep

The fact that my sharks grows quite a bit smaller than a bamboo helps a little too, but hopefully by then I will have a larger tank, maybe a 350g :bum:
