you are. but then again he may of found some more new stuff his lfs said would work in 10 minutes.
If you haven't noticed Deric's last thread was locked because of people like yourself offering nothing but badgering. If you don't have anything productive to add to this thread, beat it. Deric is new to RC and needs to feel welcomed, yes he is rushing things and yes if he had slowed down and asked what to do when he first got the tank we probably wouldn't be here right now but let's help him out.

Deric,

I sure hope that you allowed the "reef safe" aquarium silicone to set before you put water back in your tank. and the only way to fix a leak is to remove the old seals and re-seal it.

I say reef safe because it needs to be pure silicone with no mildew resistors added.

Already??? What did you fix it with? There has not been near enough time for silicone to cure...

Not only not enough time for silicone to cure, there was a little over 3hrs time between the time of his post on here of it having a leak and his post that he was filling it back up.

3hrs is pretty darn speedy just to get 250 gallons of water emptied out, along with all the sand and rock and the tank dried out. That isn't including the time an average person would need to haul the tank outside so they could perform a proper leak test to find out exactly where the leak was coming from, emptying the tank again, repairing leak, and filling again to make sure said leak was fixed.

I'm sure we'll hear about some "quick fix" stuff :hmm4:. Again deric, not trying to be critcal, there are certain right and wrong ways to fix these things because a leaky tank is not something you want in your house and it is not something you want to cut corners on.

while I agree with you. it seems regardless of how helpful we try to be and point him the right direction, he is unwilling to take any advice offered regardless of how sound it is. So it becomes very difficult to be encouraging when he acts like he is the only one that has any clue on how to do things.

Hey guys thanks for all the advice i emptied the tank quick i have a pump that pushed 2100 goh that i set in the tank and pumped the water into three huge trash can i didnt fill he rup yet im not that dumb lol the silicone is still drying as we speak. i will be filling the tank up saturday so until then no new updates sorry all im doing now is buying more things for the tanks perfomance such as salt chemicals etc. I have been looking for halides on CL but i havent found anything yet I knew exactly where the leak was and i super sealed it with ammassive amount of silicons lol i think i chipped it a little when i kinda dropped it moving it. the fall was short but i guess it was enough to do the trick. and really you guys dont have to smart guy remarks when i do stuff im not retarted nor am i a full blown newbie y would i fill the tank with water with fresh silicone laying around SMDH but anyways guys i just made some more rock i have had success letting the rock sit and cure for a week and it didnt drop the ph in my 29 or will it do this at a leater time?????? Reply Please and PS PLEASE NO SMART REMARKS

Ok Resealed the leak filling her back up i tell ya this really sucks lol

I'm glad you are waiting to fill it back up but based on the quote above I think you can understand why everyone thought you filled it back up since you said, "filling her back up". Anyways, regardless, it was smart to empty the water and fix the leak. That would have led to a lot of problems down the road. Much easier to fix those things before you have everything stocked. Good luck with the rest of the build!

The man made rock raises the ph, not drop it. I made some to try it, let it harden for 3 weeks and then put it in containers of water. I change the water twice a week. It's been 5 weeks and it's still way high. I not sure how you've done it in 2 weeks. I'm still waiting on mine. Put some of yours in a pail of tap water for a week, then measure the ph.

Ok guys i have another question. My reef will consist of mostly softies i may add one anenome later down the road for some clown fish but currently i have 2 HO T5 lights one is actinic teh other 10,000k and then i have a dual set which has four lamps of power compacts by corallife. bulbs are two 10,000k and 2 actinics and then i just ordered my hagen ballast off ebay for $37 which will power one actinic and one 10,000k ia this enough light for my tank to grow softies or am i still short. I really dont wanna go with halides i dont want a chiller and dont wanna adjust my canopy

how many watts are we talking here? thats really what you are looking for. but softies such as zoas and mushrooms and leathers demand the least amount of lighting.

I think im pushing about 300 watts and thats without my two T5s that will get hooked up to my new ballast once it gets here

Ok guys another quick update Today i recieved a free 20 gallon long tank off CL =) this is great cuz i will be heading to lowes to get my sheets of acrylic cut and using this tank as my new sump so yes no one gallon of water overflowing on the stand in case of a power outage =)

300 watts for a 250 gal tank is not much. also this tank you are getting, is it glass or acrylic? the reason i ask is because siliconing glass to acrylic is like mxing oil and water, it isnt a good idea. 20 gals is still pretty small sump for a tank your size IMO. fot less then the cost of the acrylic you could just get a cheap 55gal tank and have a nice sump that will fit your needs perfectly.

I want a 55 gallon sump but i cant fit it under the tank and i cant find a 40 gallon long anywhere

then in that case get glass cut for your sump. mixing acrylic and glass tends to not work so well when it comes to sealing it up.
