270 Gallon SPS tank for JBNY

Two close calls alright. Glad you were there to take care of it.

Regarding the filtersock, I'm sure you'll come up with a hanger bracket to avoid that in the future. Since filter socks need cleaning every few days (or risk overflowing them), perhaps it would be better to omit them during trips.

For the lightning strike, do you think plugging your ACIII into a UPS would be good enough protection?

I had a similar close call incident twice with my hang-on refugium when caulerpa got in the overflow drain and clogged the drain pipe.

JB,

I feel your pain with the lightning strike. I took my second in under a year earlier in the month. Lost my AC3 and an Icecap 430 ballast not to mention multiple GFIs and dimmers throughout the house.

I just installed a whole house surge arrester & transient surge suppressor directly into my AC panel. At the very least, I'm hoping it lets me sleep better during thunder storms.

Do those run a lot?

The tank is doing great. I have had no problems with the tank at all. I did put in a water sensor that is hooked into everything. It is located on the back of the sump stand in the fish room. The way I made the setup if anything leaks (with the exception of the frag tank) the water will be channeled to the front of the equipment stands, so the sensor is in that area. If water is detected it shuts off the main pump and trips an alarm and sends a txt message to my phone.

But so far everything has been great, all the frags are growing. I forget how long it takes to grow things from frags, but it's moving along. The only losses I've had are 1 or 2 frags that I bleached when first putting them into the tank, and two gobies jumped from the tank.

some updated pics.

Nice lookin good, so do you add any kind of supplements to your tank or just rely on good water changes, your tank really looks like its coming along great job
