Are you going to use a bilge sump for the sink drain? or you have a good downflow for a regular drain.

I have to use a pump. :(

Man that sucks....

Have you seen the new basement toilets that grind up the waste and pump it up. Maybe that would be a good solution for nice chunks of hair algea :)

How does a sink sump work? How does it not overflow? And how much does it cost, guys?

I am planning on having one in my new tank room but was hoping to just plumb it to the back yard, somewhere. :D

I Built large Yacht for many years and i use them all the time it is no drain system on this big boats everything is running by pumps, you have a small sump where the water drains in to and the pump pumps it out when the sump switch is activated .Just like a reef tank sump with a level switch but the switch is on reverse when water gets in there the switch kicks the pump on and when the water is low it turns the pump off ,most of them they have some type of filter/screen to take care the big staff they work very good you just need to keep eye on them .
The ones for the toilets they have pump/grinder on them .

Update on where I am.

I decided to paint the electrical outlets I had put in with rustoleum to help out with keeping them from rusting as time goes on. I used the rustoleum primer then a coat of the rustoleum black enamel. It came out pretty good IMO.

Next I finished painting the room. It took a while. I had to fill in all the holes and fix all the wiring that had accumulated down there over the years. All the phone lines terminate in the corner of this room. They had just been tacked up on the wall, and as the years went by it because more and more of an eyesore. So I decided to get some raceway and run the wiring through that. I came out great. After that was done I painted it to match the color of the room. I choose a blue color to go with the water theme.

Here is a shot of the splash cover I am going to use for the outlets. You can also see the network jack I put in for my Aquacontroller3.

Also got the sink installed. I had to run a pipe from the sink drain to the main exit drain for the house. I hid the pump in the wall, in an area that is easily accessible for when I need to get to the pump for maintenance. I also ran an electrical cutlet behind the wall to plug the pump into.

I've got an extra valve under the sink for hot and cold that I can hook into the RO/DI unit too.

Also got around to cutting, staining and finishing the sides to the stand. Two more coats of ploy tonight and I can put them on the stand hopefully tomorrow.

I still need to reinforce the floor and wall in the room. I think I can get that done this weekend. Then it's just getting the equipment back in place and then I get to start plumbing the whole thing up.

I just got a call today that the 90 gallon polyethylene tank I ordered for my sump is done. So I have to go pick that up. Also my main circulation pump, a sequence 6000, needed to be serviced. I had MDM fix a leaky seal and replace the bearings. So it should be just like a new pump. Hopefully I will get that back this week.

very nice job Joe . I don't know if you already did this, but you also need a one way valve after the sink drain pump.

Thanks Guys! It's getting there. Re-doing the sump room is just so time consuming. I know when it is down I will be super happy with it though.

Steve, yeah there is a valve after the sink pump. Thanks though.

Oh yeah I forgot to add. I went and put a bead of silcone all around the floor where the base molding meets the floor. So if any water finds it's way to the floor it will stay in the room.

Yes I am. I am going to use the same tank I had on the old system too (a 55 gallon AGA tank).

Hey Joe everything is looking great as expected!! I have a couple of questions. I just received my new 220 and need to move it into the house. Where did you get those glass suction cup lift handles from? How did six people handle all the weight? I saw the rig you built to carry your tank around the house that is a great idea. Thanks John...

I get the glass suction cup at Home depo and use them and then take them back and say that they wont work for what i want it for

I borrowed 4 of them and the other two I rented from taylor rental. 6 was more than enough for the tank.

Joe-

That sump room is looking fantastic. Are you going to drain your RO waste water into your sump sink? I initially did this with my utility sink in my basement but I switched it since the pump that moves the water from the sink to the sewer line was turning on too frequently. I had the RO waste line tapped directly into my sewer pipe. I was afraid that my sink pump could fail when I'm not around and cause a flood.

I am going to use the sink pump for the RO waste. The little giant pump I have is made to be used in applications such as washing machines and such. They turn on a lot as well. I've got a little giant pump on my HVAC that handles the whole house humidifier, that turns on all the time during the winter, that pump has been going strong for about 15 years. So I'm not too concerned. Time will tell, thanks for bringing it up though, I had not thought about it.

The sump room is getting there. I hope to finish putting the studs and door in place to wall in the room today. Then I can sheetrock it in, and then I am ready to start putting in the tanks and plumbing it all up!
