3 tank,2600 gal. system room build

too much panic...1/2" really isn't that bad. I would say a successful test and knowledge gained. I would bet one or two jacks would solve that minor deflection.

Not sure I agree. 1/2" deflection of a steel I-Beam would indicate an enormous stress. Not only would I be concerned about deflection of the floor, I would be equally concerned with point loading the foundation where the I-Beam sits on the foundation wall.

Given that I wouldn't want a semi tractor parked on my driveway for an extended length of time, not so sure I would want one parked on my living room floor.

i believe it s over the i beam. honestly man, take off all the dirt already. if it keeps getting worse which it is, that means that floor is going to bust. imagine having live fish and corals it may take a month or a year but it will bust. i would reccomend either crossed beams (3-4) or just get 2 tanks, even with 2 tanks i would still add atleast another beam. why risk it that bad mess up your house and your tanks, plus safety too. when it falls it will also pull your walls, dont think it is just gonna crack and fall, no, because that beam wont crack, it will tilt.

so you proved the floor wont hack it, so why not get on the sane side, and add only 2 tanks, smaller ones too...your forgetting the wight of live rock, equipment, stands, and the actuall glass aquariums etc. its not just weightless tanks with water.

but i mean if you really want wait a week so we can see the pics of the damage..id never do anything that would damage my own house, i rather have a nano if it came to that.

have you spoken with a structural engineer? worth every penny.

i am glad i have the steel beams under my tank. it is rock solid.

This really comes down to a safety issue. If you can't get a crew together to get the sand out soon enough, I would consider breaking the containers and spreading it around. Lot of mess but the floor would probably fare a lot better with an even load.

you guys are no fun. BOOOO!!!

Yeah, ask my wife, I am a card carrying member of the wet blanket crew.

I totally understand. I would never have carted the sand inside in the first place. Too much work and risk for my broken brain.

i agree too much weight. my work crew has disappeared and i wonder why?,am working on getting them back. so options are putting in cross steel i beam with floor jacks with steel pads under them. or moving 1 tank to in wall in living room. planning on some demolition to check on structure under living room wall. i will not give up. sweet.

this is scary, came with tbs rock. it opens and closes has fangs inside, must live there a long time because of coraline on it... what the heck is it!?!??

can't see it dude. That's the risk you take with TBS...hitch-hikers galore. I brought in fresh rock from MI and had some interesting stuff stow away. Never really anything too bad though. I think the worst was the grape caulerpa, and the tangs went berserk one day and ate every last bit of it.

hehehe this is some crazy stuff... i hope your house still up... i'm wondering how much is your electric bill is in the end of the month? could you plz share that with us... i can't wait to see everything done... good luck with you new tank's....

took some doing but got helpers to revove the 17000lb. of sand today. will measure deflection first and again after 1/2 of it is gone and again when all is out. we acuired another reef tank today will post pics.
