300 inwall starfire project

Hey Fireworm pic of my standpipe. Keep in mind I have two holes drilled in the overflow so there are two standpipes roughly the same. OK maybe not roughly I had a few beers while I was drilling the holes :)

Hey drpo21 and 8BALL_99 :)

I don't know really about the dead spot. To be honest I was just trying to cover up the overflow a bit so it would look more natural. You guys may be right about the build up now that Ive had time to think about it. Only 3 pieces of live rock in there now so I can still move things around a bit.

Since the tank is visible by 2 sides I have been struggling with aquascaping so that it looks cool from both sides. It is proving to be very hard. I want as much swimming space as possible but I also need hiding places. Also I plan to add more live rock soon and a clean up crew. I am hoping that the dudes I get to clean the tank can hide in the crevases of the rock pile and get to work.

I don't know again I am very new at the reef stuff.

As for water flow I talked to my lfs guy and het runs the same pump system in his home and he told me it was good But I think I will add a wave maker or more water heads l8tr. NO MORE PLUMBING!!!!! lol I was thinking briefly about a closed loop system but I am plumbed out for now.

What do you guys think about blasting a power head through the crevasses of the rock pile?

Some pics of the plumbing and equipment. I had a faulty check valve for the calc reactor so it is not hooked up yet. The water changes will be done with a 42 gallon rain barrel gravity fed to the sump. These things are awesome!!! they come with a tap that has threads so you can silicone and screw an attachment to it and put a hose on it. Thank God!!!!! Water changes were not my priority in thinking (in know bad mistake). It was an afterthought that turned out ok.

As you can see the contractor still hasn't finished the one wall. When done it will be good quality doors so I can access all of the equipment but will be framed around the tank so all of the stuff is hidden.

There will be some styro or somthing to deaden the noise (which is not bad now).

Man I have to apologize about my spelling. I read a few of the replies I posted and am not impressed. Missed letters everywhere.

By the way I am a teacher lol.

Just added a bit of the clean up crew. Meet the new inhabitants of the tank.

3 skunk shrimp named Sponge Bob, Mushroom (cause he hangs out by the sea mushroom), And Scooby Fred. My 4 year old daughter promptly named them as soon as they got in the tank.

10 or so Redlegged Reef Hermits and 10 or so snails of the Trochus variety.

Unfortunately Scooby Fred has got himself in the overflow and I have no clue as to how to get him out. I stopped the pump and water flow and tried to scoop him out (or should I say it) with my scraper as it is the only thing long and narrow enough to reach to the bottom. Needless to say it didn't work. Any ideas on how to get it out? Do you think it will crawl out on its own? There is alot of current there.

Anyway the shrimp are cool as they will float on their backs and take flake food right out of your hand.
