300 inwall starfire project

Another picture of the protein skimmer put together. (that took a few beers) with the new tank stand.

One of the construction workers has his ticket in welding so he made it from steel tubes. I have recently put a rust proof black glossy finnish on it.

The tank being loaded into the truck. 500 + pounds five guys later. I put 2x4's on the bottom to even out the weight and than used some foam insulation to help it ride a bit better. Covered it all up with blankets and prayed that the ratchet straps were on right. About 60 clicks from home the corner of the blanket flew up and could not be secured back down. All it would have taken was one rock from a semi and bye bye.

But it got home ok and we slid it through an unfinished window on to 2x 4's that I put on plastic dollies.

RR,
Give us some info. on your tank; i.e. manufacturer, material, setup. Interested watchers want to know!

Hey Kar93:)

I hope that the next batch of pictures I upload will be better quality. I tried it earlier but they keep banning me for too much memory use. I will try 800x800 next.

Oh mann!!!! You are right ODReef I haven't given hardley any info yet. Sorry all noob mistake.

Ok here goes.

The tank is 96x24x30 starfire glass. It was made by Saltwater Connection in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. About 2 hours away from me in Kenora. (1 hour north by boat from Minn). Once the drywallers are done I will uncover the tank to take more close up pictures of it.

It will be a visible by 2 sides room divider tank separating a living room and music room. There is an overflow on the left side with 2 drilled holes for the drainage. I thought 2 might give me more flexibility when it comes to water removal and flow rate.

The water will be running into a 75 gallon sump with refugium. By the way anyone with info on how to start a good refugium let me know.

There will be a 2 stage calcium reactor ( I haven't picked one yet) protein skimmer (the one in the pics) and a Cresun MD40 pump to get it back to the tank.

I have on order a five stage power assist 100 gpd Ro unit with built in tds meter.

Lighting will be 8 4ft. t5s.

Biological filtration will be live rock and sand. I am hoping to eventually have a full reef setup but I am in no hurry to stock. I plan to set it up and get the water and plumbing stabalized than add the live rock a little at a time. The region that the live rock is from will dictate the area of focus I will use to pick the corals and critters. I want to try and make it as habitat as possible. I am hoping the Indo-Pacific area.

Let me know if I missed anything. More pics to come.

Thanks for the input all. This sight rocks.

Just get some algae from someone and throw it in and add some lights. Need not be fancy because it will look like a swamp before too long.

I hope that is just for actinics and not your daytime lights.

Crap Not enough Otty? I can't go metal halide because All of the accesories are in a wall and that will go way to high for heat. How many more should I add?

Whoever said reef tanks cost alot was way underestimating things. I had planned to spend 5000.00 ( thats what I told my wife ) but I think realistically I will be approaching 10000 when all is completed. So for the feint of heart dont try this!!!!

i think everyone who 's married here .we underestimate the true cost so their wife can agreed:rollface:

Amen to that. I thought I was doing good at hideing what I had into my 29 from teh wife. We were talking one day, and she threw out a number that was within $50 or so. Don't let them fool you. They know, they always know.

Hey kar93 the room that you see will be a dark blue for an accent wall ( dont ask me what that is the wife just tells me these things :)) and a beige for the rest. The office/music room/recording studio on the other of the tank will be a dark aqua color.

Hey fireworm Im with you. I just want to sart adding water and get it going but I am waiting on one last piece of equipment. The ro unit is still back ordered. Figures it is one of the most important pieces. #%$@#%$@#%

I think your right. My wife got very close to the estimate the other day.

Thanks bullitr. If you see me missing something let me know. That goes for all who read this sight. I just picked up the dual chamber calcium reactor yesterday...almost there.
