30g cube NANO LED BUILD !!!

Kinda weird, since i always do a bit a maintenance when i can, day after i got back i cleaned the class moved the rocks to get detritus out of them, removed the filter sock cuz it was clogged up, changed about 3 gallons, you know the usual. and it made things look worse, the anemones were kinda deflated a bit but everything else looked fine. So this morning i test the water and was kinda puzzled.

the ph was way low at 7.4 but it was the morning ???

alk was at 7 dkh which is ok but i would like it higher

calcium was low at around 360-380 ??

a tiny bit of phosphates .

Just weird to me that everything looked soo good when i got back even at these levels. and these low levels were after a slight water change.

I obviously wasnt dosing 2part while away but i had barely started. Any suggestions ? i was starting to think my rubbermaid is leaching something or i had bad salt. anyways thought i would share, gonna dose a bit extra today and retest when the lights have been on for a while.

It called "new tank syndrome". Happens when you rush to set up a tank and stock it quickly. LOL. Jk jk.

IMO phosphates probably spiked if you moved the rock around to get rid of detritus. You stirred it up and it probably dissolved back into the water column. Best way is to siphon it out right away with minimum disruption.

The low pH and dKH I'm not sure. I'd say maybe the new water's parameters werent matching the tank's water.

haha, funny, not worried about the phosphates they were barely there. and ammonia nitrites and nitrates all at zero.

and im guessing your saying the new waters as in the water i used to change out 3 gallons didnt match ? i changed it last night and tested this morning though ???. also water cleared up more and anemones filled up already after raising the ph and alk, ill re check calcium, i dont want to add that too fast.

I worded it wrong. Lol. I meant maybe the new water (3 gallons) had low pH and low dKH. Bad salt maybe? Or maybe you have low aeration overall which drops your pH.

I can't remember or find the thread. But there was one somewhere on RC explaining how salt with low calcium levels can bring down calcium levels overall in the tank during a water change.

Well the mixed water had been mixing or a week. And I guess not much air going thru it. But it was only 3 gallons. Also the salt is red sea coral pro but it did leave a weird white film all over the bucket , heater , and power head ?

Anyways. Everything looks great now with the extra dosing today. So I'm gonna have to test every day or 2 to figure out The dosing better now that I'm back.

Not that bad. And once you have it down you don't really have to do water changes or test all that much for months on end. Lol

that salt never leaves a white film when i mix it. make sure you didn't get punked and someone changed your salt.

I know this is a brand new bucket from fosters n smith though and it didnt do it on the last water change but has done it 2 or 3 times now with film all over the bucket heater and powerhead. its really strange.

ill mix some new salt in a day or 2 to check it out. Also i took a chance on some wholesale website selling a current 1/10hp chiller for under a hundred bucks. Wish me luck on that. LOL

I'll like to see that chiller you bought any pics...

not yet, it was ordered but they dont take paypal and i need to resubmit order, waiting for their response.

Nice! make your tank wall to wall anemones

I think it might end up being that way. RBTA Species tank !!!

Also i got the dosing down better and everything is doing great. Anemones look dang cool and will be even cooler when they get a bit bigger.

NEW VID< LETS FRAG SOME ANEMONES !!!
