30K Lokani Bleached last nite

Im completely bummed because my 30K Lokani that I've had in my system for approx. a year has rapidly and completely bleached! I know these guys are sensitive but mine had already encrusted and colonized. Wednesday night (10/29), it was fine, last nite (10/30) it was completely bleached and all white from base to tip covering the whole colony...what gives! :mad2::mad2::mad2:

Not quite sure of what the cause may have been. I recently upgraded from a 100g to a 190g about a month ago, and everything was back to normal (i.e. params, flow, temp, etc etc). The last thing I had done was replumb my Ca Reactor because I had just got my Co2 bottle refilled; system was w/out CaRx for only 2 days. Also did my daily doses of Zeovit with 2x drops of AA...fed the fishies and thats it!!!

Any help please? All other corals around it that are just cm's away are completely fine! No other livestock are affected, nor showing similar symptoms. No AEFW or RB's! I house a large number of hermits and astrea snails, Yellow Scopas, Choco Tang, Melanarus Wrasse & a Merediths Angel. 2 Brittle stars and nothing else!

IMO thats called STN or RTN

You calc could be at 500ppm, alk could be at 7 DKH and mag could be up to 1500+ppm

i carbon dose 2 days a week and keep my param's at the above stated levels

I don't think your parameters are too far off at what there at though to cause anything negative, Alk is really the only one that concerns me cause at an alk of 6 i notice my sps don't like it at all but i don't think that would lead to STNing or RTNing overnight

i've had the same happen to a lot of corals man, sometimes things are great for months and then one day you come home to a piece that was thriving and it's RTNed completely, it sucks but it's not to say that it doesen't happen

Even when your tank param's are stable and consistant

You don't have any stray voltage in the tank do you? (cause i know a fellow reefer that had some leaking from a pump and it caused a ton of issue's for his sps skin slouthing off and RTNing and STNing pieces)

Rapid TN for sure! It was all purple with PE on Wed. nite and last night, completely bleached white!

I also assumed Stray Voltage but never feel anything when my hands are in the tank, and my hands are always in the tank!

My current have been consistent since I've started Zeo, which would be close to a year now. Maybe a delayed response to the upgrade...but all other livestock look fine!

I think its the ALK but if you are using carbon check out the quality of it.Some people have had issues with poor quality of the carbon.

alk if it had a dip from 6 to 5 over night it could be the problem i keep mine at 8.6 and calcium at 475 and the mag at 1350 i started to loose color and tissue thought it was my lighting and then bamm found aefw i am in that battle now..how about your lighting did you buy new bulbs when you upgraded did you acclimate the coral since it is a sensitive species?

What was the normal Alk with the CaRx running ?

I'm thinking (also) about Alk swing.

First i would fix the param's to :

Ca - 410 - 450
Mg - 1250 - 1350
Alk - 7 - 7+
Salinity - 34 - 35 ppt (1.025 s.g At 25c)

Ca: 400
-- this is ok... could be bumped up a bit. maybe 450
Alk: 6
-- Low alk in a Zeo system is a BIG no no.. Should be ~ 155ppm/8 DKH
Mg: 1100
-- MG should be around 1400
PH: 7
-- 7.??? If your PH is actually 7.0 that is WAY LOW!!
Temp: 78
-- fine
Sg: 1.022
-- thats pretty low. Should be 1.025/1.026

I change out Carbon regularly and only use KZ Aktivkohle so I think Im good there!

I agree; unfortunately I did not check the Alk during the time (2 days) the CaRx was disconnected

Just looked at my old Thread on "The Other" Forum and here's what some of the Zeo heads had recommended, regarding params...

Ca 380-420
Mg 1200-1350
dKH 6.5-8.0
K+ 380-400ppm
salinity 33-35%ppt.

I guess Alk is a bit low but I'm not too far off on all the other readings. My concern was that all other livestock is fine and thriving; Lokani was the only one that bleached within a 24 hour period!!!

...Again, thanks guys for all your input! I'll be sure to dbl-check my params daily for the next week!
