You'll want to get your mag up in the 1300ppm range. It's difficult to raise calcium when the mag is low. Are you planning on dosing kalk? That should help with those numbers.
new pics! These were taken yesterday around 430 so they had been in the tank for about 5 hours. Sorry for the color. My lights are 14k and I don't know how to get the blue off.
I got a pressie too! Yay! Thanks, dude
Copps Sunset Monti! It is orange, but the blue makes it look brown...don't know how to fix that on my point n shoot?
and the Miami Hurricane
FTS
I also got a new used Vortech and have cleaned it and put it in operation as of an hour ago Going to send my other vortech in for inspection since it's noisy.
thanks I have a two part solution to use. I'm going to look into that tomorrow on my day off.
What I have is C balance by Two Little Fishies. They said add 1 tsp per 20g. I added 1 capful of each. Will test the water either when I get home at midnight or when I'm coherent in the morning
Will also recheck my phosphates and probably change out the gfo in the reactor.
I'm happy with these results. My funny lil clowns would come up and bite my syringes as I'm drawing water up...hehe! They were ready for their supper, I guess.
I printed off a pic of my tank and took Par readings with 2 different units just for craps and giggles!
This is with the old Aquamaxx 14k 250w MH
Tomorrow morning I'll put in the new Phoenix 250w bulbs and wait for them to fire up in the afternoon. Will probably read the new bulb again after week just cause
Heehee ya. I wasn't going to post it for awhile for fear of getting "flamed" or whatever it's called since I put it in earlier than most would advise. I'm going off the advice of a seasoned veteran so please don't flame me. He's done it all, well almost.
Here's pics. Put it in last Friday.
When I first set it in.
Then it moved underneath and looked like it could possibly split.
Then moved to the bottom and landed on it's head! I just watched.
Then here it is today w/Bonnie and Clyde each in their own shot.
Clyde has gone into it a little bit. I have not seen Bonnie yet. She was in one from where I bought her. It will be a week this Black Friday.
While it was moving I zip tied my Seio with filter floss. Will keep it like that until I get my vortech's back from Ecotech. Then they have their own foam guards.
Meh. Most people say not to put a nem in for 6 months but I don't follow that. I feel like that guide line is more for people just starting and I think that's the guideline so new guys can get down good husbandry habits. If you've been in the hobby for a while and know what you're doing I say go for it as long as you have all the conditions right for it.
That's what my friend said. As long as the parameters are stable, it's fine. I'll have been in the hobby 3 years this spring. Short time compared to others, but long enough to have to clue as to what's going on in the tank.
Longer than I. My first salty tank started a year ago, still running and I love it. Still make a rookie errornow and then but all is forgiven and we learn from our mistakes.
Mistakes happen to all. I know a few that have been reefing a long time and have made some big mistakes. We can be as diligent as we can and try for the best
I decided to feed the nem tonight and it ate the shrimp right down!! I have the little 4oz package cubes of PE mysis. Took out a cube, thawed it in a net at the sink, then grabbed some tank water to put in a small bowl. Dumped the shrimp in that, sucked it up, squirted some in the tank for the clowns first and then squirted some right in the anemone and it ate it all. Didn't take a video because I was busy watching the anemone and making sure it ate and the clowns were entertained. I'll try a video next time
Also did my first water change yesterday after having added the nem. Everything was matched perfectly, but still I worry the first time or two I will run chemistry tests in a lil bit.
