40 Breeder FTS Thread

They are regular fans. I'm going to sell it but not just yet, looking for a 72" and will probably swap the bulbs over since they are almost brand new.

Ok guys, I need some advice.
I was planning on getting one of these three lights for my 40b depending on my budget. ATI 6x39, TEK 6x39 or current NEP 6x39, but my LFS is insisting that I don't need 6 bulbs on that narrow of a tank, and there will be a lot of light escaping off the sides of the tank.My LFS really knows his stuff and I trust him and I don't think he is just trying to make a sell because he has the TEK 6x39 in his store.

So, which light should I get the 6x39 or 4x39? It will mostly be a softy and LPS tank but I would eventually like to try some SPS. I do have one birdsnest now.

I am building a 40br with SPS dominate and am doing Aquaillumination 4x39 retro in my canopy. I was told it was plenty for the tank. You have to remember th
Tank is shallow at 16".

Do you have a glass bottle in your tank? In the middle on the sand? If so, could you show me it a little more? I really want to place some in my tank. Ive been collecting them from the Goodwills. Just can't decide which to put in.

Here ya go. It's an old Ciante bottle. I just stripped off the label and wood wicker. The only problem is that some crabs get stuck. I've used it to segregate the xenia from the rest of the tank.

Hey theammieguy, I am aleaksthegreat on marsh, and I think a 6 bulb is too much, whoever is telling you that it will escape is right and probably look big as heck on the tank. I used to have a 4 bulb on mine, and truthfully I liked it more than I do my halides. I am guessing either CP or TNT is the LFS your talkin about? How much is the 6 bulb anyways? I sold my 4, but am thinking about getting the new one with fans in them, wont have to worry about any heat issues this summer what so ever....

Actually talking about Kevin at AAF. I'm looking at the ATI 6x39 and it is only 13.5" wide. CP qouted me $400 without bulbs. I thought about last night and I'm gonna stick with the 6x39. I've seen several 40b's with them and if I ever get a bigger tank, I will already have the light.

Heres a paste and copy of my build in our local club forum:

Sorry, but I'm not the stop while I'm in the middle of working and take pics type of person. Tank is a 40 gal breeder. Return pump is a Mag 5. Alot of equipment still has to be purchased for this tank (light, skimmer, fuge light, powerheads). Stand is a 2x4 build skinned with 1/2 osb and painted black outside and white inside. Tank is still cloudy. For drainage I opened up the hole from 1" to an 1-1/2. Built an overflow from 1-1/2" 90° elbow and a 2" to 3" pvc adapter. Hacked a little off both sides of the adapter and a little off one side of the elbow. Sanded out the 2" side of the adapter so my elbow would slide all the way in. Cut slots with a rotozip in the 3" side then opened them up with a file. Inserted the elbow inside the adapter and used multipule coats of pvc glue. Water drains through the bulkhead, down a vertical tee and into the sump. Due to I'm waiting for my 20gal tank I lent out to be returned (plan on baffling it up for a sump), I am using a 4 chamber acrylic sump that was promised to my daughter (She's not happy about that) for when I drill her tank. Return is a Mag 5 using 3/4 pvc up the back and over the top. At the moment I am using a piece of crushed pvc for the return nozzle unill I can dress it up with some loc line.Built a rock wall using eggcreate, dry rock, and 30lb test fishing line. Came out better than I had expected with my main goal was no use of foam or epoxy. Bottom is held in place with the eggcreate being inserted into another piece of eggcreate that is on the bottom. Top held in place by a maxi jet powerhead clip. All rock was laced with the fishing line on its backside then arranged on the eggcreate to leave minimal space in between. With the eggcreate flat I hung it over a table a tied the rock to the underside. After it was tied I put a drop of krazy glue on each knot.Still have to arrange the the other rockwork as they were just put there to hold the eggcreate down while filling with water. Tank will run with ro/di for 2 weeks to rinse the rock and sand then will be changed over to salt. Futue plans incude a canopy (hopefully by this weekend) with retro fit 250watt MH, need to find a skimmer and also need a pc4 to link it into my rke.One pic w/ flash and one w/o.

Nice, love the extra depth you can get out of this tank. I ended up getting a custom 62 with a 24" front to back depth, but the 40 breeder is a great and cheap way to get a tank with good dimensions for scaping.

Sorry for the quality, only have Phone camera. You get the idea though.
