40 Breeder FTS Thread

Old nemo here is a quick breakdown of my tank:
jan.09 40G breeder, 29g sump custom made. Custom made stand & canopy. 2-250w(20k Icecap)HQI MH w/2 39w T5 HO Actinics. MTC 250 Skimmer, OM 4way,2- Vortech MP10, 2-Seio 620, MRC CR2 Calcium Reactor, PM kalk reactor ,Coralife 1/6 HP Chiller. Reeflow Dart return pump that runns all equipment mentioned above, except Skimmer powered by Panworld 100PX-X.

Let me look up some pics of my equipment...

Here are some more pics;

Return pump has been changed since I took these pics. It's not a closed loop; it's my return lines going through an Oceans Motion.

Serious and impressive set up! Looks like you've thought of everything.

Pics of your lighting??

All that growth in one year? Pretty impressive

Controller?

Dosing?

How much daily evap do you have to TO?

I am worries if I go to MH that I will have a tough time keeping up. I plan to be fully automated with my travel schedule.

Here is a pic of my lights:

Its a old pic

Most of the corals came from my 33 cube.

ACjr with DC8 & DC4

Don’t know how much evap. I have an ATO that’s hooked up to my Kalk reactor

Nice! Do you have those lights on winch to raise and lower? Is that the height of the lights? Seems a little high.

Strictly SPS? one clam I see. Very nice set up.

I have custom stand and canopy. I plan on 4 T5s with possibly two PAR38 LEDS in the middle for shimmer etc. I have two fans in my canopy but feel MH will create too much heat. i do not plan chiller due to space limitations.

20L sump, octo extreme 160, OR 2500 or Octopus return, 2 heaters, LR holding in sump, custom Reef Mania acrylic 5.2 gal TO container attached to sump with ATO (still to choose). I plan to dose BRS 2 part. I plan to make automated with RKE or Apex. I want to eventually monitor and control remotely. Any other recommendations? Thanks

I think it looks great! I prefer minimal aquascapes, but I think a tall pillar would add a lot.

Your lights are so high I can't see them in the picture - was that just for the photo, or are they always that high?

Thanks !

yup they are always that high. I could lower them if I wanted to , but my corals get enough light . I have 380 watts of Actinic and 250 watts of MH beaming down on mostly softies. I bought this setup from a guy that grew anything he wanted to with this setup , with the light that high off the water . Plus it doesnt transfer heat to the water . My temp stays between 76 - 78 degrees .

Here is a pic of the setup when I first got it .

OldNemo: no, light are stationary. They are about 8-10" away from the surface of the water. I can't remember exactly.
Even at that height I can keep SPS on the bottom of the tank.

It's mainly SPS but I do have 4 lps, 1 leather and 2 yumas.

As for your equipment you should be good with everything you listed.

Noise control sounds about right.

I will probably stick with the 6 bulb. Does your TEK have fans?

My fixture is not ideal for my purposes. I originally bought it for the 40 breeder (which will now be a sump), but it will go over a 75g. It will be short, but maybe it will be nice to have a little less light at the end of the tank for some LPS.

mjk0301 is correct. I'm thinking of somehow adding a fan that will blow on the "label" end of the lamps. If I can rig it, it should help me with some par.

iwishtofish:Thank you. The corals had nowhere else to go. Now they are just an eye sore...

No eyesore to me, that's for sure! But maybe now its time for the upgrade. You have enough corals to fill a 120 (or bigger) once they grow out!

Those critters stuck to the glass intrigue me - some kind of monty?

Glad to see this thread still going. I thought it was lost forever haha. Good looking tanks guys. Ill try and get an updated FTS of my 40br soon. Anyone else have anymore shots of their 40brs?

Im glad this thread is still going too. Keep em' coming. They are great inspiration. Here is mine. Having some heat issues but other than that its going strong.

mheaven: Very nice corals! Some really specialized equipment. It is apparent alot of thought went into the supporting cast of the tank.
