45G Shallow Rimless Peninsula Aquacultured SPS Reef

Can't wait to see what you do with this one last one was amazing

Looks great jordan! going smaller isn't a bad thing imo, i find life with the smaller tank much easier haha

Thanks guys!

How is the new build coming along mate, bloody slack on the updates Jordan......:p

I haven't made too much progress to date due to Christmas and trying to finish other projects. I had to do some repairs and painting in one of our bathrooms, which ate up a bunch of time, but its done now so I'll be spending more time on the tank. I did make up a square of 24 RB leds by hacking up my old heat sinks and soldering together. It will go around my MH pendant and supplement the 250w Phoenix bulb I have. Other than that, I've been doing a lot of conceptualizing and I did purchase some lumbar for the stand. I also sold my old 120 and took the cash to the hardware store and bought a new mitre saw, which helped with my bathroom project. So I have made some progress I guess, but not as much as I was hoping for at this point in time originally. But heading in the right direction, and I've freed up quite a bit of time for the tank in the new year. Hopefully will have the plumbing up and running and cycling by the end of January at the latest.

Hope the tank build is progressing well, hope to see it running soon?

It is going much more slowly than hoped due to a variety of things (other home projects which are pretty much out of the way now, sick kid, trip to the Toronto aquarium). I have been making slow progress though and I'll post some pics today or later this weekend - my light fixture is almost complete which was the first major hurdle that I needed to get out of the way before moving to setting it up. I'm also still debating a small tank in the middle of the stand for frags. Not quite sure yet though if that's going to work.

Nice, but was expecting to see the front end of the tank. :p

Lol, nothing to report there yet. I'm close to being done this pendant, and once that is done, then I can get the stand finished, which shouldn't take too long. Then once that is done, I can get the tank in place and up and running. :) The light fixture is taking a lot of time, but I think its going to be worth it.

I've been with the hobby for about eight months and currently own a IM Nuvo 38G mixed. I am looking forward to this build since I missed your 120G. I plan on eventually upgrading to a 120G rimless (48x24x24) and wondering if you have any recommendations or insight at all. Thanks!

So far everything is looking good. Hope to see water soon :) I will wait patiently as I am sure it will be worth it. Any concern about the heat from light and the wood surround? Any plans for a small fan to move air past the heatsinks? Just wondering as I have never tried this.

Thanks - I have plenty of recommendations lol - shoot me a pm on specifics of your plan - lighting, skimmer, etc. I think I just hit the sweet spot before tearing my tank down and I'm happy to share with you my thoughts.

Light fixture looks i am with Sahin waiting for a pic of the front lol

Soon enough! Patience ;)

Yes, will be a few weeks before water, but heading in the right direction. Yes, there is some concern, I plan on putting spacers between the wood and the LED heat sinks to allow to circulate between the sinks and the skin. So it will not be directly on the heat sinks. I'm not too worried about heat as the fixture is in the basement, which is the coolest place in the house. Also, the pendant is going to be hanging, with air all around it - so I don't think it will overheat, at least not based on my past experience with LEDs and MH. I'm not planning on running a fan on or around it, but if it gets too hot I guess I could always do that.

Looks good Jordan, wanna loan it to me... heehee. Seriously, looks like it will rock.

Lol, no I don't want to loan it out now that its done (took me way longer than I thought, happy it is done) :) I think it will be a nice combo of lighting, and the wood skin should ensure that there isn't too much light leakage into the rest of the room over the rimless tank.

At work and cannot see pics! ###### 234234####234

Will have to wait till I get home. :furious:

Lol, you are only missing out on the greatest MH/LED pendant photos ever ;)

In all seriousness, nothing too special, but hope it works with the rest of my stand and tank both from a functions and aesthetics perspective.
