45G Shallow Rimless Peninsula Aquacultured SPS Reef

Thanks for all the comments everyone, hopefully now all that is left to do is watch things start to grow out (knock on wood).

I don't have my 2-part dosers online yet, but my tank is starting to consume ALK fairly quickly which is a good sign, so that is next on the agenda. But after that, not too much to finish.

I am contemplating adding siporax to my refuge/frag area... I like what I'm hearing, I can get rid of the rock that is in that section at present, and sounds like there is very little risk, but potential good return.

Really neat build you have going on here, looking forward to seeing how this progresses!

And I really need to put buying a macro lens as a high priority hehe.

I am just cycling a new tank set-up and I added siporax to it in a reactor. I am interested to see how it does. I did not want to put it in the sump as I am hoping to keep this one fairly simple and clean,( ya I know good luck with that ) and keep all detritus traps out of the sump. I went with minimal live rock in the display and wanted more space for bacteria to grow. I hope this stuff is as good as it looks.

Can't hurt and it's got more porosity than live rock..

Those are my thoughts as well. I think I could box it up like M007 did and put it in my refuge, and then I can take it out periodically and give it a good rinse to keep it clean. Easier IMO than using a reactor over the long term and trying to keep that clean. My refuge area is fed from my return, so the water has gone through the skimmer compartment and through a filter sock on the main BeanAnimal siphon drain, so over time I don't think detritus should be too much of an ongoing issue. I guess like anything though you need to keep on top of it to maintain it.

Thanks, while not mandatory, a macro lens certainly comes in handy at times, especially with corals at the frag stage :)

Yes, I have concerns about the reactor filling with detritus so it is fed from the return pump compartment. I also removed the foam pads from the reactor( it's a Banshee brand) so that hopefully anything of size will just pass thru. I also have a dedicated pump with a prefilter feeding it so I am hoping for the best. I am thinking that an occasional test for nitrates at the reactor output may be a good idea, your thoughts?

If I did a media reactor, I would feed from the return as well, so might not be much difference really in terms of maintenance, now I'm starting to rethink this. I was just thinking it would be easier to create a box as M007 did from eggcrate (I've got tons) than bring a reactor online (not sure I have one big enough). I'm sure testing for nitrates at the output would be fine... but probably you would want to know where things are at overall in your system?

My bad, I should have clarified. I always test the system, but I was thinking that should nitrates creep up it's nice to know the source. I can't see how Siporax would cause any unless they become a trap for decaying material (?). Just thinking out loud I guess as I am new to this media.

Forgot to add a couple pics of my algae blenny, quite the character :)

Its kinda just like LR, I think the main thing is you don't want the pores to become plugged, because it decreases the surface area available for the bacteria. I haven't used it at all, just been following the matrix/siporax thread here in the SPS forum, you may want to run your thoughts by some of the reefers who have used it.

Absolutely stunning layout:fun4:

Now that's an update holy cow! Awsome looking tank love it

Stunning setup. Love the way you use the woody Colours and canvas roll for cables! Something I'll aspire to have if I get a tank size like yours hehe..

Anyway just a quick question - how do you like the jns or aquamaxx skimmer?

This looks sweet:

All looks great. Was well worth the update. Great photography too. :)

Down the road, Jordan, when you take this same shot with a tank full of colorful, growing and branching acros, it'll be a fantastic before and after!

Thanks :) I like the skimmer, I settled on the CO2 for my 120, and it was great. The CO1 is great also, they are no-fuss skimmers and perform, have a small footprint, and a great price point. They are not silent, but pretty darn quiet to boot.

Looks great bud great pics its coming along nicely

Thanks, hopefully I can tow the line for the next couple of years until everything grows out lol :)
