47G SPS...Revamp

My single lyretail would only eat frozen, until I added 4 resplendents, the lyretail changed to male in about a week and started eating flake! Go figure.

Thats it. Im going to stick a colour photo of resplendent anthias on my display

Have you ordered the iron lung yet mate, don't want you over exerting yourself having to breathe......... You know your thumb and forefinger do the same thing if you put the test vial between them. Btw, that doesn't mean you now ask Shih to 3D print you some fingers.........:debi:

Sahin, the time/money you spent on this could have been applied to getting your computer back up sooner. This stirrer is responsible for us waiting longer for your awesome pics. Think about that:hmm3:

Ha... 3D print Sahin fingers to do the same trick... I can't image the picture...

Actually, there is no money and time spending on Sahin's stirrer. I flew to UK with hand carry, he went to vocation, when he back, shipping arrived....
That stirrer is designed for old man like me who once start shaking this bottle, may not able to stop ;-(... I hope this stirrer will still work when Sahin get to my age.

Thanks Bulent. My friend is starting a business soon, so there will be many choice Acro frags coming my way. I'm going to hold out for only premium/rare stuff from now on.

Fair enough. It sounds as if you have a good plan.

Who is your friend?

I am looking forward to seeing your beautiful frags becoming mature beautiful colonies one day.

Cheers

That's too funny :bum:

Haha, you are just jealous of my new reef toy. 3D printed and custom made. Like when you got very jealous of my Flipper Magnetic cleaner...because you have to clean your tank glass with an old broomstick..

I want the flipper and the stirrer lol.......... i like reef toys just as much as the next reefer

Hi Bulent. I hope that corals grow into nice colonies. Last few years havent been so good. :(

With regards to my friend; I cannot say at the moment as he is still setting up etc. But when its all official I'm sure it will be well known in the UK.

Hi mate, the flipper is probably one of the most useful reef item I've bought in the past few years. I'd love to get a 400w Radium for my tank...but I doubt other half will allow that. :(

I think you're doing great with your current lighting Sahin :) Acros are always bluer on the other side mate.........;)

I'm late to the party again! Those pictures looks great Sahin, the colors and health of everything are really looking awesome. I have been trying to get my shots to be a bit less underexposed looking based on what you have been showing off here. But I find that I tend to make them look too washed out, so I am still working on my photo technique.

Looking great Sahin! Love how the SSC is coloring up! I acquired one that was bleached out white a few months ago and now is really starting to color up nicely! Love the tank!

Thanks Joe. My tank is 20 inches front to back and every inch front to back is covered with 8 lines of T5 and an LED cluster. I think the even lighting and having so many tubes of T5 really helps light up the whole tank more even than other lighting technologies would allow.

Hey buddy. Since that photo the SSC has improved even more which I'm quite happy about.

Hopefully with the next batch of photos the remaining brown acros will have started to colour up at least.

I don't know why I just clued into this.. You look at Deborah's shots or Damien or yours or any of the other amazing tanks lit up with t5 and the shots are so nice even from the side.. It's because the t5 light, which is so multidirectional that even underneath the coral, there is some light.. Under the mh, I find such a dramatic difference in the intensity of colour from top down to a side shot. It's frustrating..
I'm thinking of putting a couple of actinic or blue + bulbs up against the front of my tank, the next time I do side shots...
You really can't beat t5 for getting some light into the nooks and crannies...

Sahin awesome update buddy! Now i got my eyes out for a magnetic stirrer too! I'm glad everything is going well for you now. Colors are looking like a box of crayolas!

Yup, with MH, even with the better reflectors out there there is still a concentration below the bulb, and remember all the light is originating from a point source, so there will always be dark/light areas. T5's just bathe the tank with light.

I am loving these hybrid T5/LED fixtures.

I still have like 7 BROWN turds out of 45 SPS. I am hoping at least 3-4 of those brown turds colour up in the next 2-3 months. :hmm2:

This is why I switched from a single row of LED to T5's, so I could enjoy the corals from the front and not just from the top. :)

Are you sure those turds will color up? I'm starting to think my coral choice is more of an issue than tank parameters. I am a sucker for cheap unknown frags.

That's because of topics like this I am adding 4x T5 80W to my three Radions!

Wonderful tank. Thanks for sharing. Following!

All the best,
Rui

Great pics of the corals and fish Sahin! The SSC has colored up very nicely! I second some shots of the sump area.... I am intrigued in the equipment and methodology almost as much as I am the aesthetics of the display.

Cheers!

The sump is very simple and only has a BM NAC6 skimmer, a small bed of cheato and a few pieces of liverock. I will check my photobucket account to see if there are any photos on there, if not I'll take a photo and post up.

Rui, it was VERY nice meeting you today. I hope the frags reach your tank ok. Next time when you visit if you have more time, I can drive you out to some LFS here in London. :)

One of the brown acros has actually started to colour up. I took it off the frag rack when Rui visited me today. Surprisingly, with the polyps retracted we saw red colouration coming through.

So I hope in the next few months the colours improve further. :artist:

Currently running 4 Coral+, 2 Actinic and 2 PacSun CystalBlue. Not sure of the LED settings because I dont have Bluetooth on my laptop; the PacSun was setup on my brothers laptop...

Is this still your bulb combination ?

Now that you have your laptop back in service have you checked or changed the LEDs in the PacSun ?

Hello Sahin,

It was a pleasure meeting you.

To be honest your pictures are good ... don't take me wrong ... but they don't do justice to what I have seen yesterday.

Very nice colors, amazing polyp extension. Actually Sahin had to blast the acros so that they could hide the polyps and we could see the color behind. AMAZING ...

The colors building up as we saw in the frag that was on the rack.

The frags arrived just nicely ... I had to go to the bag packing area and ask for a piece of plastic as the little bucket was leaking some water. The guys just looked at me and thought I was crazy :jester::jester:

It's also dependent on my wife job schedule but I will definitely try to have more time next visit.

Once again. Thanks!
Rui

P.S: BTW ... where are those updated pictures? The RedPlanet is very diferent from the last pictures you took ... So lets update this or it's an whooping next time I am in London :fun2:

THIS POST IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICTURES .... :D

I changed the tube combo slightly as I found over time that 4 C+ tubes to 2 blue tubes was a bit overpowering (actinics do not impact overall colour tone. So I replaced one of the C+ tubes with another blue tube. All else remains same.

The main issue with the tank for me at the moment is getting the coral colours to look their best.

Most colours are generally ok, but the recent increased feeding has caused some corals to darken slightly (colours are there, just a little darker), whilst others have improved and yet others remain brown. :rolleye1:

I guess I need to back down on the feeding slightly and wait out for the brown ones to colour up or they will be taken out and replaced. Brown ones have until December to colour up or be thrown in my friends coral tanks.
