Poor Taste

Poor Taste

John,

It's fine that you are hawking a product under the guise of a hobbyist on reefcentral. I appreciated all of the insight that you were able to provide at REEFSTOCK regarding the Ecoxotic lights and I appreciate the information that you provide on that one certain reef blog site about the ecoxotic product:

“Ryan- Don’t forget it will also be available in all blue. I like the name you’ve given it LOL. We will keep you very up to date with this product.
Posted by: John Ciotti”

I am running four AI modules on my tank and one halide. In my communications with Chris he asked me if I would take pictures of my tank and allow him to use them on his website. I am not a professional photographer (or a professional reefer for that matter) but I was glad to help.

John, this post is in response to your comment "The AI website has a picture of a horrible reef tank that looks like it was put together by a 4 year old"

John, I am not a four year old and I am offended by your comment. While my tank is not TOTM, I put a lot of effort into it. To hear someone compare my reefing abilities to that of a four year old, especially when this person has never met me or seen my tank in person, is downright offensive. I don't care that you want to rip on AI to promote Ecoxotic. You are one of the few reefers that I have come across that would speak negatively about another reefer's tank. I love this hobby. I love seeing as many reef tanks as possible. While other people's tanks may not have what I like in a reef tank, I would never refer to them as horrible. ..Especially not in a public forum. It is just poor taste. John, I wish I would have seen your post before reefstock so I could have talked to you in person about my horrible tank. Next time you are in Colorado, please pm me and we can get together. Please do not personally attack my tank anymore. Say what you want about AI, but show some respect please.

I quoted your comment for the reason that I feel as though it should be pointed out twice. I apologize for offending you and the comments made about your aquarium. I can not take back what I said but if you would like to contact a moderator (they never answer me) and have them take out those parts and these posts I wouldn't object.

I will be back in Denver very soon and would love to talk to you in person and possibly take some pictures of your aquarium for you.

I should have worded what I said much differently, it was more of the presentation on the site and not your aquarium. I will not try to back peddle from this as it is my fault for getting caught up in emotion while typing.

I feel terrible for offending you and what you said is exactly what I've been trying to voice. Just goes to show you everyone can be a jerk even when they are trying to do the opposite.

Everyone should be able to do exactly what they want with their aquarium regardless of age or skill level.

Actually on reviewing AI's website I wasn't initially talking about your aquarium but more about their gallery. I realize I did refer to yours but again should have made it much more clear about what I was trying to say.

I think your aquarium is just fine and would be much better if presented in a fashion that did it justice. Please feel free to PM me and I would love you give you my number and talk about this.

1,000 apologies

John

I am 100% hobbyist and anything I did for Ecoxotic in Denver was because I truly believe in what the company is doing. I've just recently been hooked up with the guys at Ecoxotic to do photo work for them through the reef blog you mention. What I do with them is no different then what you did for Chris at AI. I don't get any special treatment or benefit directly from posting on any forums. I just want to show people what they can do with energy efficient aquariums.

Again, I apologize for what was said.

I am appalled by this. To see someone representing themselves as hobbyist with no mention of a affliction with a manufacturer is not only in poor taste. But in my opinion dishonest. Then couple that with poor taste to say negative comments about other products while in the protraying yourself as unbais hobbyist. Then to comment someone tank in tghe manner you did is just wrong. I have been looking into getting into LED lighting for myself. I can promise that Ecoxotic will never see any of my money. Your comments were offensive in the very least and any company that you represent needs to take long hard look at the image you project.

These are my own opinions as a true hobbyist. It is sad that Ecoxotic's feels the needs to engage in this kinda of behavior.

John the moment you started taking money and or products from Ecoxotic's for your pictures and or hawking their products at events. You stopped being a 100% hobbyist and became a member of Ecoxotic's team. You sir are a representive of Ecoxotic's. This thread was created in a way as a attempt to make people believe you had no vested interest in this product. I resent the fact that your using MASC forum to practice business in a unsavory manor. Using negative comments about other products in order to try and make Ecoxotic look better by running down the compitions and those people using it.

You sir are a disgrace! By association Ecoxotics looks equally at fault as you are their voice. As show by your participation at Reefstock.

Wow, I have almost nothing to say to that.

I've not mentioned any other aquarium lighting brands in this thread and if I remember correctly I stated MANY times in this thread that I didn't want people turning it into a who's who of lighting brands. I simply and I've stated this many times just wanted to share the aquarium and what you can do with LED's. Someone asked and I gave them my answer and honest opinion. I didn't mean to offend anyone directly or indirectly.

I don't care who uses or buys what brand of lighting it means nothing to me. I'm friends with many of the people from many of the LED lighting manufactures on the market and they are all cool guys. If I had a pico tank believe me I would be getting a fixture from nanotuners.

You are making this into an issue that just simply isn't true. I did however insult someone unknowingly and I apologized. If you are not that person you don't have a problem and please stay out of the conversation your opinion is not needed to add any fuel to the flames.

I will always man up to my mistakes especially if I hurt someone else. Unfortunate that I can't do anything in this particular situation to fix it.

I would also like to state that I have not hidden any facts that I've given Ecoxotic photos. I figured I wouldn't be a braggart and prance around telling everyone how awesome my photographs are, that's just plain stupid.

Also I'd like to point out that I said this before Reefstock meaning that your statement is false. So if I made a comment 4 years ago does that mean that Ecoxotic has anything to do with that as well?

We should get this thread back on track for the people who are interested in everything EXCEPT forum drama.

Also who is to say that you guys and your affiliation with AI and trying to derail my thread has no malicious intent? I see your posts no better then the insult I had made. If anything your making the matter much worse by making it obvious and continuing the conversation. When no one in the first place would have even noticed.

Moderators can we get this thing cleaned up?

Thank you!

I'd like to continue this thread with everyone knowing I'm giving Ecoxotic my photos.. Not that anyone didn't know that or cared in the first place.

In an attempt to get back to the LEDness... yes thats a word, I posted some pics of my lighting in my bonsai thread. John I was wondering if you could chime in for me and LMK what you think?

Thanks in advance

This is straight off of Ecoxotic's web page? Now I believe you were saying??? I have no problems with what your saying other than your a paid employee hawking their product like your a your a hobbyist with no vested interest. I sir have no connection with any company nor do I even use LED lighting though I am looking into it. I also should say. I am rather involved in this hobby but by no means a expert. But I am the president of MASC Colorado's largest reefing club. My intent was strictly to call you out as you attempted to scam people in my opinion. I will refrain from posting any further comments to this thread. As there are True hobbyist reading it. I just want them to know what your doing.

Do the right thing in the future and share your knowledge but don't pretend to be totally unbias

We'll be attending ReefStock 2010 this weekend in Denver. We should have some new exciting products on display and we appreciate the opportunity to demo and show our product line to local hobbyists. Our own master Aquascaper Jon Ciotti it up against Mr. Scott Fellman in a Reefscape competition from 11am to 3pm on Saturday. Hope to see everyone there!

I will go and check that out right now.

I'm not a paid employee, I'm a 1099 and a photographer. I do work for all sorts of companies all over the world, Butterfinger, Nestle, Coke etc..... Just because I shot a new Butterfinger ad doesn't mean I don't like Snickers bars.

Thank you for leaving this thread be and like I said this thread is for my tank "only". I guess from now on if you have questions about Ecoxotic related stuff ask me and I will ask someone who "REALLY" knows the information from the company. I just take pictures man and I used to setup tanks for a living. I'd like to be able to just be a hobbyist on this forum. It get's old always having to hide my aquariums from the internet because of stuff like this.

Thank you for understanding, let's get this back on track.

Who cares, business is business. I work for walgreens, get your drugs frome us! You don't have to really. So he takes pictures for someone. Big deal. It sold me. I've been looking for someone with pictures so I could know how the lights look on the tank. Thank you Jciotti for showing me. People are too sensitive these days. IMO. Can't wait for my lights so I can see in person how they make my tank look.

I'm going to go buy some drugs at Walgreens immediately!!!

Glad I could help do something right. I just want to share my tank and show people you can not only grow SPS under LEDs but it can be easy, fun, and simple. You can do this with any brand LED lighting I happen to prefer this one and feel comfortable with it. I wasn't intending to sell anyone with anything, if you like the setup cool, if you like the tank great. Let's do something cool together.

Quite frankly this is enough to consider your association with Ecoxotic to consider your association commercial in nature, even if any remuneration is not monetary. As a result we need to ask you (and anyone with similar arrangements with other companies) to abide by the comercial parts of the [ua]. This means you need to refrain from posting pictures and commentary on products from the company or competing products. Repeated problems of this nature can result in account restrictions, up to and including banning. In extreme cases, a company can find it's name on the censor list. So lets all behave and not comment on products where there is a relationship with a company beyond just merely a consumer. We really don't like having to do more than just a simple warning ;)
