5.56 225 Peninsula reboot

Thanks Steve.

I'm doing water tests today... it's not quite as depressing as it was a week ago.

I hate Hanna Po4 checker.. wait 3 minutes and look away for 10 sec and the results vanish :(. Had to d 3 tests today before I didn't miss the output :(. I'll post results.

I agree I hate both my Hanna test kits. I picked up one for Po4 and Alkalinity because everyone was saying how good they are. I only used them a few times. The numbers were all over the place and did not make any sense. I will stick with Salifert kits.

The key with the Hanna checker is to use both vials, one with just tank water (C1) the other with the reagent (C2). Dissolve the reagent in the second vial, gently turning it up and down until all the particles are dissolved, then test.
I usually do my Salifert nitrate test while the reagent is dissolving, which is ample time. Once it's dissolved, I run the test three times in a row to average it out. This, of course is for the ULR phosphorus.

Mixing it is not s problem. It should beep so you know when to read it before it times out. You should not have to run three tests to get an average either.

I agree, it should have at least 5 minutes before it turns off and a beep would be nice too. I do three tests (with only the single samples) to make sure it's reading correctly. The first reading is usually correct, I just do two more readings to make sure. It's my work-around the 3 minute timer.

I’ve been on quarantine for exposure to the rona for 2 weeks due to a hospital visit. I get back in the house this evening I think... I’m pensive about the condition of the tank. I haven’t seen it in over 2 weeks

Annnd it’s gone

Covid related death. I was in QT with the rona for a month (2 positive tests and some symptoms + exposure to a serious case) and someone didn’t fully understand the importance of keeping the ATO full... well the return pump ran dry for a few days and when the ATO was refilled, the kallwasser from the reactor @ 30ml/min was not enough to prime the return pump for hours but it was enough to make the return pump really loud again which prompted addition of RO/DI water to the sump where the pH had reached 11 over the previous hours. Instantly tank pH jumped to 10. Fish were jumping out of the tank LPS, SPS and softies melted as we watched.... I was summoned from my trailer wit a lot of banging and “GET A MASK! THE TANK TURNED WHITE AND THE FISH ARE JUMPING OUT”.

Only a few patches of bryopsis and bubble algae survived :(

Running good! Looking great!

The carnage

The aftermath

That's terrible news about your tank. Glad you made it through Covid though.

Just have to look at the bright side.

Wow get your tank stable and if you want some stag horn let me know

That's another coral that bumped me out, your rain in Spain. It took off to a slow start but ended up encrusting like a cyphastrea until about 6 months ago when it started branching.

Yea, I made it through easy but the guy who gave it to me, and you all know him, he's been in the hospital a few times and probably has permanent lung damage.

I'd gladly trade my tank for his health. If that's the deal god offered me, I'll take it!

Yeah, for sure, my co-worker got it bad. He was hospitalized and on disability for a month. Doc says he needs to use oxygen tank for awhile. So I actually volunteered in a covid vaccine clinical trial in Anaheim. I'm like a guinea pig now. But this covid vaccine is one of few vaccines that is slated for lower income countries because it uses older protein technology so it more affordable to produce.

As long as you have your health, Your tank will make a comeback. Although it does suck to see all your hard work and money gone like that.
