50 Cube SPS Zeo Reef

On a more positive note, the zoa's have grown well!

Clamclam looking good too :)

The other frag rack going nicely:

Artistic top downs! Everything looks green though :( need some more blues, reds and those types of colours!

And of course FTS

Hi mate. The tank looks good. Do you know if there are any tangs or other fish that would eat the algae? I'd be tempted to put such a fish temporarily in the tank until the algae is clear.

I've also had some problems with caulerpa*I've two tangs an neither go near it I've also tried urchins mexcian turbo snails but nothing seams to eat it I just manual remove it when doing water changes it a pain in the a##

Thanks Sahin :) Foxfaces are meant to do the trick but they get big and fish are always a pain to catch haha if I found a tiny one then I might give it a go but it would to be reaalll small lol

Agreed.. A tang would take care of that in no time, I would think..
Nice shots, as usual!
I must have the worst tang ever then haha bloody Kole won't touch the stuff!
Thanks Matt

Yellow tang! So glad to hear the tank survived the holiday!
Too big :( I've thought about a tiny foxface though as they do eat the stuff. I am too Mark lol

Manual removal and boiling RO are working so far, I've had a pretty good death rate so far lol hopefully it continues to work!

Well it's be just over a week since I got back from Qld and a wonderful holiday, in that week I think I've manage to accomplish a decent amount of work on the tank. The tally stands at 3 water changes (about 40%), mass work on removing and killing as much algae as possible, testing and testing, new carbon, slowly bringing the lights back to normal times, changing the Radium bulb (the weekend) and a zeovit stone change on Monday! And another water change either tomorrow or Saturday as well.

I'm happy to report that things are slowly improving and the algae is most definitely reducing due to the hours I've put in to killing it off. The corals are perking up a little and I'm hoping the few unhappy acro's start to bounce back very shortly but I'm buckling down for the long run with these picky bastards lol although they're not really that picky as I know what the problems are and I'm working to fix them! Alk is the number one issue there was when I got back as it was all the way up, nice and high at 12dKH!! I died a little but then retested and well it was up at 11.5-12dKH. Given this fairly large spike that had probably happened over the course of the preceding month I'm fairly happy with how the tank has gone and I'm hoping there are no delayed deaths because of it. The rest of the parameters we all good and within normal bounds but I will report that it's the highest nutrient levels I've seen in the tank for quite some time!
Nitrate: 7ppm
Phos: 0.05ppm (the test kit did expire in Dec though so it may be a little off)
Mg: 1230ppm
Ca: 400ppm

Fish are all good, happy and much fatter now! Even my lovely little possum wrasse is starting to get braze in his new home, I actually get to see his little head poke out whenever I feed :) I suppose I've rambled enough though so some pics are needed aren't they ;)
Frags are all still kicking along nicely!

My candy apple goni is doing really really well now it actually has a proper home haha

Clam as per usual

The firetruck has pailed out a lot and has lost it's metallic green base but is still red so I'm happy

The worst effect acro and unfortunately one of my favourites is still not looking great, I'm really hoping this guy makes it through

Getting some new growth here and there though :)

I do love the odd chalice or two though

Zoa's doing well:

And lastly a FTS:

I've got a few changes and plans in the coming future and as I usually like to plan for some big changes may be occurring but usually as every time I say this it may not even happen haha one of them is gettign the CaRx running so hopefully at least one will occur!!

Great pics, that damn Firetruck looks good even when pale. :)

A baby yellow tang will do better than a Foxface IMO. Tang will take a year to outgrow the tank, the Foxface will outgrow it in a few months, or minutes. Foxface grow alarmingly fast when yougn and then, fortunately, slow down.

At the Atlanta aquarium here in the states there is a reef display with a big one spot Foxface that would be too big for my tank, too big for a 180 even. I'm guessing he was about 14 inches long.

And a rant about fish and tank size guidelines ... my yellow tang is content to stay in generally the same area of the tank or follow the Foxface around. My Kole tang, often recommended for smaller tanks, cruises the entire length every minute and is extremely active picking on rocks or fighting himself on a spot of clear glass.

Not a stick but sick goni!

That clam is huge! That must be great for filtration. I wanted to do the same but can't find any LFS that carry them around me.

Dom the tank is looking great mate! Seems you have a fancy for the zoas mate, they are killer for sure! Also looks like you are running out of room, and that clam is a monster, absolutely stunning!

That goni is a diamond indeed:inlove:
Dom tank looks super nice mate!
I hate my self for saying this once again but your zoas are cool...to say the least:p

Thanks Mark :) The firetruck seems to be one of my toughest acro's which is excellent given it's awesomeness!

Those barbs on the foxface also worry me a little, especially in such a small tank for them. I can definitely see myself being on the receiving end of those a few times haha

I'll have a chat about the YT with my LFS :) My Kole seems to have settled into the tank really well which I was worried about but he happily cruises around and doesn't bicker with anyone!

Here's what it looks like, I tweak the colours to give it a much better representation of it!

She is rather large isn't she, just over a foot long I think! Takes up quite a lot of space but I would never get rid of her! :) They're definitely one of the best inverts you can keep in a tank!

Cheers Perry  The compliment means a lot!! I am definitely running out of room in the tank haha I'm hoping when I move the tank I can re-work it a little better and fit in some more goodies! We'll see how that goes though haha

Thanks Mike! It's okay, everyone can be brought down by the evils of flubber on the occasion :uhoh3:

Well I took some nice up close pictures of some of my favourite and more unusual zoa's yesterday during my water change and I think they've turned out real nice like! Also got a couple of acro pics to go with it as well
Firetruck seems to be going real strong again

And the frags look amazing with the swirl of colour too!

Purple tip frag from Rob

Robusta still going well too

I LOVE THIS little pocci and it's finally growing again!

Oh and one of my all time favourites, the sunset/goldrush monti!

And of course now we move onto some real eye-popping candy colours ;)
Diabolique's are probably my new favourites!

These friggin things!

Some nice-uns

Nice Dom, except for the non SPS pics. :)

The firetruck is awesome, nice to see it recovered well.
Haha thanks Mark! I do have a slight soft spot for some flubber :p

Yeah I'm so glad it's still chugging along really well! I just need to get the green back now like the frags have :)

I need one of these!
This thread is a really nice read, wonderful tank! That firetruck is pretty awesome as well!
It's definitely a really nice frag! I did learn from the person I got it from, that the tips get a better purple under lower light so I might be moving it down a touch :)
Thank you for the compliments mate! I appreciate it!

Dom, the last two top downs of those zoas are nutso. If only those zoas grew in a branching manner with the new growth tips exhibiting bright and contrasting colours under intense lighting.... Then I could like them......
But since they grow in a matt formation, they're meh!!!!!
Just get the yellow tang and watch that algea disappear!
Kole tags are bristle toothed tangs and don't really eat macro algea like that, they are scrapers.. The yellow, he'll go after it.
Love your photos as usual, Dom. Always excellent!
And the swirling red in those fire truck frags make me dizzy with covetousness!!

Have any frags that didnt make it? Mount zoas to the frag skeleton and viola, you now have branching zoa's.....
