540 Acylic FOWLR

First off, the dart is not pressure rated so it wouldnt do as well as some others for the skimmer. Also, I think that the max rate of flow through one 1" pipe is around 600-800gph. So I think that you would need to get a smaller pump for the return. You could still use a dart, but for a closed loop.

I know very little about FOWLR setups so please forgive me if this is a stupid question. Why spend the money on electricity every month for MH's if you don't need them?

I would not use the dart for the skimmer. I tried a Ampmaster 3000 on my dual skimmer it worked okay. But when I put 2 gen-X PC40's on it was night and day difference. Pressure is needed to preform well with that skimmer you have.

The dart for your return should be fine, Try to keep the plumbing 1.5" 1" you will lose to much flow from the decrease in size.

No the darts add little heat to the water. You should be fine.
For the Dursos you want the water to only drop 2-3" into the overflows to keep the sound down.

I already have the MH from my 90 g when it was Reef so I am just keeping them and switching the bulbs from 20,000k to maybe 14 0r 10. The skimmer I do not have already but That is the one I would like to buy. It is rated for a 900g tank and MRC recommends the dart for a pump so I figure it will be ok.

1) Is the dart good enough for a return pump on this 540 FOWLR?

On my 600gal I am running a single Seq Dart for my return... I am only using it to return from the sump back to the display via two 3/4" Loc-Lines...

I should be starting on my plumbing in then next wk or two I hope... I have pics of my plumbing pieces LOL, just not of the finished product... I will be sure to post some pics once I get started on my plumbing...

This is what $300.00 worth of fittings look like

Yeah I just had to purchase 7 bulkheads and 2 checkvalves. I called the LFS they wanted 3 times what I paid for everything.

I love being able to drive to Savko... The fittings in the above pic would have prob been close to $450.00-$500.00+ if I were even able to get that stuff at like a HD or Lowes... Everything I have found at Savko that HD or Lowes would carry is about 40% cheaper...

Got some plumbiing. I received two 1 inch check valves for the returns and some bulkheads from Savko They shorted me one bulkhead so I called and left a message so we will see how they handle it. I have the 4 bulkheads for the 2 returns and the 2 overflows, and 3 for the sump 2 to feed the two pumps one for the skimmer returning back to the sump. I drilled some holes in the stand. Next on the purchase list in the sump, pumps, skimmer, filter sock, heater, fuge lighting, and the finished skin for the stand also the canopy.

Alright after post my question about the tank on a tile floor I decided that I am going to leave the tile off under the tank. I will save some grout in a air tight container. Here is the proposed fish room before.

Corey...look down in the bottom of the box for the gate valve. It should be wrapped in bubble wrap also....they can get lost inthose big boxes. If you can't find it...shoot me an email and I will ship one out on Monday.

Beautiful looking set up. I'm drooloing over here. Please get some pics of the finished plumbing. I'm interested on how you plan to accomplish it. Also so shots of the plumbed skimmer would be very helpful

I picked up that same skimmer, slightly used, only mine has been plumed to be gravity fed and recirculating. It is still wrapped up in a closet at the moment but will be curing rock soon, I can't wait to see yours in action. These puppies are huge!
